I've tried the same thing...I found that what works for me is just playing normally. Expanding really seems to get on their nerves.

To be honest I really don't know what helps cause it, but generally I've noticed as my popularity with the people goes up, my popularity with the Senate goes down. And usually conquering a lot of provinces gets People popularity up.

Now, I realize you've said your popularity with the Senate is all the way down already. To be honest, I've been in the exact same position as the Scipii. I actually resorted to quitting the campaign because my coffers, which previously contained nearly 1 million denarii, were dropping to lower than 100,000 because I had huge armies waiting for the civil war in Italy, which never came. Point of this little anecdote is, if you can stand it, just don't bother with the civil war, it'll come to you eventually.

If you *need* the civil war to happen for some strange reason, you must either wait for a more experienced player's response, or perhaps next campaign play as the SPQR by unlocking it in descr_strat, as you can immediately initiate a civil war and take all of the Italian provinces in the first few turns (on Easy, at least) =)!

I have played tons of mods, amongst them EB, RTR, XGM , VI 2, and with it down-sides i like vanilla much better. The only "fix" i have on my game now is a force diplomacy script so the diplomacy don't get all bizarre on me.

i like vanilla even though its flawed to . i dont care aboutr historical accuracies or any of that.

you can get an assassin and start assassinating the senate which will proc a civil war. im not sure about this because ive only heard this and havent tried it out myself.

The AI will never start the civil war on its own, its impossible. You can be outlawed by a failed assassination on a fellow Roman faction, though, which makes you neutral to the other Romans. The reason the Senate isn't attacking you probably is because they aren't actually at war with you.

i think its cuz you dont have enough popular support for the civil war yet

Just make sure you have armies set outside the other Roman Capitals. You won't regret it.

My Lord believes the Roman Senate fears you too much to attack. They know if they start a civil war it will be the end of their petty "Republic."

Wow you prefer Vanilla over XGM and RTR, dude that stuff is like... not possible.

Forget the senate starting war, just do it yourself. But beware of the Gauls and Carthaginians and Iberians and Greeks... as they will try for your land.

Newest campaign I started was a vanilla Julii campaign. I preferred that over starting a campaign with RS or EB.

Well RS and EB are rather one sided mods I find.

Why that? EB is very difficult and very heavy but if you want a challenge, big challenge, then it is good. RS looks great, adds many units, bigger map, better map.
