Default how to train units faster

    hi everyone,

I just downloaded and installed this mod and must say congrats to you guys, the units are just awesome! gret job!

But in the campaign I saw that spartan royal guards take 30 turns to train?? any chance to lower this? I know they're elite units but still 30 turns is much a bit to much

    greatings and good job!

Just to emphasis what you'll read in the wiki the Spartan Royal Guards are not an elite unit. They're a unique unit with ridiculous stats. If there was any way in RTW to limit the number of units of them to train you can be sure you'd only ever be allowed one unit of them.

There are many cool units in XGM of which the SRG are only one. I reckon you should give the game a try as it is, they're 30 turns recruitment for very good reasons.

You can try out XGM Command, it will set the unit recruitment time to 10 turns at 15000 denarii and give the SRG the command trait. Check it out...just click on XGM Command in my sig. The latest version is on the last page of the thread.

Is it compatible with the newly-released 5.8.4 version of XGM?

aznflea and spartan198: Here is a link to the page for the XGM 5.8.4 compatible version. Dime made a few small changes to the EDU that are now captured in XGMCommand584.

I actually recruited a unit of Spartan Royal Guard once...when I realized what a big mistake it was I was already like 10 turns in so I just let keep going...

    dumb dumb dumb

--They are a beast though, and I think the Spartn Peorci (sp?) should be stronger, as Athenian and Syracuse are simply less attack and higher defense then the Peorci. Weren't Spartans supposed to be legendary fighters?

Thats why the SRG are an uber unit. The Perioici (sp?) are the non-Spartiate troops Sparta fielded... So are just slightly better than average hoplites.

As Scutarii says the Perioici aren't actually Spartans. Fairly sure that's in their unit description. They are a very cool unit though.

Still, aren't they trained by the Spartan army and whatnot? They are essentially equal to the Athenian soldiers, where I believe their stats should read more like 13/18 instead of 10/18, because the Athenian/Syracuse men are 8/21. I know they aren't true spartans but they DO come from the lakedonia and would most likely be trained by other spartans...shouldn't that count for something?

Also, in the XGM, Athens and Pergamon both get a super academy unique to their settlement. Perhaps Sparta could get a unique Armorer/Blacksmith that makes the average soldiers out of Sparta better then the average soldiers of say, Thermon? Of course I am useless in the code/technical part of this game, I am only an idealist. cheers

That actually isn't too bad of an idea...didn't Sparta have the Temple of Artemis Orthia? Maybe they should get a +2 Morale boost or something?

yeah, a moral boosting temple for sparta wouldn't be out of place at all.

    Awesome

How would the morale boost affect the troops? Less likely to rout?

I'd say an experience bonus would be better. The morale bonus is even said to not work at all (By the EB team, IIRC.) They say it probably only affects troops trained there and who remain in the city, so its fairly useless. An experience bonus of 1 or 2 would be appropriate (a "spartan agoge" special building, or something like that).

yeah man, either way...an experience bonus is also very fitting.
