What resolution should I choose when saving the tgas? 16, 24, or 32 bits? Or does it matter at all? I'm kinda grasping at straws here.

I've used 32 and it's worked just fine for me, but if you can do more with less, go with 24.
Okay, so I'm creating a map that is not as wide as the regular mini-map. How do I make it so the mini-map looks like Britannia's (with the background on it) instead of distorting the minimap's shape badly to the east and west?

I thought you might have a map that is of the proportions of the Britsih Isles campaign (A4 paper size)
To get a radar map that fits the small screen, take map_heights and resize it to 500*250 and 250*125 (name them radar_map2 and radar_map1 respectively and put them in the imperial_campaign folder) - You might want to color the bigger version before reducing it in size even more.
The radar map background works only with maps that are higher then wide.
That's not quite it. What I am trying to do is make the mini-map show a box instead of stretching out Algeria and the east coasts of France/Spain. So I'm trying to change the dimensions of the map on the small screen. Britannia is the only one of the CA maps that is not longer than it is tall so I was trying us that as a model but I couldn't figure out how that was done. I'm sorry that I didn't describe the situation clearly enough.

"By the blood of our people, your lands kept safe."
is this tutorial just for Kingdoms, or is it compatible with just M2TW, cause i ain't got kingdoms and there are better things to spend my money on.
If it isn't compatible is there a tutorial like this that is??
Nothing changed in Kingdoms in terms of the creating of the map files, with the exception of the geography files but those aren't covered in this tutorial. I'd still recommend Kingdoms if you intend to make a distributed mod, as there are a lot of new features which aid it, and it's probably pittance in a bargain bin somewhere.

Like I explained in the PM:
The tutorial is completely compatible with the base M2TW game. The modded files still go into the same folders.
After setting up the mod folder, simply delete all the files except the bat and cfg files in the root. Then edit the bat file to read 'medieval2.exe' instead of 'kingdoms.exe'
And thanks Augustus for the detailed stuff.
Ok. Thanks for the quick replies, will have a go at it later on today if i can spare the time
Hey! Great tutorial. This is very well put together. I just finished my Americas campaign map with it and it looks pretty cool i think (my first map ). Thanks again!
Very funny and old tale of Mordor. The grass is always greener.
Epic Tale of Thera, simply a masterpiece . Borissomeone's Tales of Thera.
