Default I was unimpressed by RTR platinum

I dont know about you guys, but after downloading the RTR Platinum edition, I was thoroughly disappointed. Whats the point of the 3 phases anyhow? Too many units of which %90 become useless after 15 minutes of playing. Seriously, this edition lack - badly. Not to mention several bugs, such as the game shutting down on you sporadically. Of course, this only happens after a significant battle. I don't like the design of this mod.

They're used to emulate the time to convert people and build military infrastructures, before you can begin recruiting units in a conquered region.

What?! There are too few units even for major factions! IMHO each of factions should have at least two dozens of local units - for example iberians would have everything in Iberia Total War, and Romans should get like the entire unit rosters of Paeninsula Italica, and Parthians should have unique units for each of its fedual clans, and city hoplites/peltasts for each of greek cities....

    Lack what??

It has nothing to do mods themselves. Error-less CTDs are caused by your video drivers or internal bugs in RTW.

So what kind of design do you like??

Im confused, you managed to use all the units in the game within 15 minutes and calculate that 90% are useless?

Youre entitled to your opinion of course (which I note has been edited by a moderator already), but seriously, do you expect anyone to believe that you joined TWC in order to post a derogatory comment about a mod you have played for 15 minutes and didnt like. :hmmm:

I would be interested to hear your detailed proposals for an improved version, including new units and/or stats, a revamped recruitment system to replace the existing 3 phase system and of course how you would eliminate those nasty CTD's that infiltrate your game within 15 minutes.

Good luck and do keep us informed of your progress.

    Burned, Volken. Burned badly.

However, I admit that RTR, while being good, never captured my imagination. (I don't know, something about the Macedonians put me off)

Though, I have to hand it to you guys...I really enjoy playing RTR Seleucids. The Sword Hypasistai are just so damned pretty.

    Game of the Fates
Mod of the week on hold -- I've played nearly every RTW mod out there.
BOYCOTT THE USE OF SMILEYS! (Okay, just once)
Antiochos VII...last true scion of the Seleucid dynasty...rest in peace, son of Hellas.
I've returned--please forgive my long absence.

Lol - calm down guys. If Volken is that dissatisfied with RTR, even if he can't articulate his reasons to our understanding, I doubt we'll be hearing from him again.

Criticism is always useful, as long as it is constructive and leads to a better and improved product. Regrettably, we're not being given anything concrete to work with here.

Of course you have all rights to dislike this mod...

But in my opinion you do not need to tell people who worked really hard on this, that you it stinks so much...

If you don't like it, then don't play it... Or try another mod (EB or RS for example) insteat of posting your displeasure...

I think I will leave it open for a while, just in case Volken wishes to respond.

Rest assured moderation has taken a look into this thread. It is up to the local moderators here if they want it to stay or not. As soon as a local moderator of this mod wants it gone, we will remove it. In the meantime I edited it to make it more presentable and constructive.

    Thanks Ponti.

I saw that you'd "edited" the OP. As I said, I'll leave it open for a short while, just in case Volken has anything constructive to add, but then I'll close it.

Well I quess I'l say something too:

I don't know what other people think but were I come from we a have a nice saying: "as many houses so many traditions, and atleast twice as many tastes". In other words everyone likes different things (or atleast not all of us like the same thing).

I don't know what Volken would like. All I can say to him is - if you don't like it don't play it.

Now about my opinion: my experince sas that CTD (Crash to desktop? Right?) has nothig to do with the mod. Vanilla also did that very often.

I like the idea of making unit recruitment harder - gives a new chalange to the veterans.

I believe most of the units are useful - even if they seem worthless. I myself believed Hypaspitai to be some spearless hoplites or a cheap version of "Imitation Legioneres"... until while conquering the Macs a very decimited unit of them was hardly thrown back by 2 (!!) FULL NUMBERED units of legioneries (not to mention there damm fast moving too).

And that is just one of many units.

What you have done with the Diadochi (above all the Ptolies and my personal favourite The Seleucid Empire) is astounding - those tropps look great and give a compltealy new feeling to the whole game.

And now some praise to the RTR team (old and new alike) - I (and many others as you can see) like this mod very much and are grateful for your work on it.

I'm reopening this thread because, as I said earlier, I would like to give Volken the opportunity to articulate a response, should he wish to do so. I will close this thread again tomorrow if one is not forthcoming.

    Edit

Time's up - topic closed - let me know via PM if you have an issue with this.
