    Default Serpentines recruitable?

I've been playing as Venice in the Renaissance campaign, it's fun and all but at about the year 1524 is there a reason why I can't train advanced cannons like Basiliks or Serpentines yet? I've got pretty much every building in Milan and Venice and I can train poorer artillery like the Culverin or Mortar..

Also can the northern Italians build their heavy cavalry like lanzze spezziate/famiglia ducale? I've got Verona to a fortress (there's no way it'll get to a citadel), and I can't train them at Ragusa.. can I ever get them?

Also there's no family tree for the Venetians, maybe this has to do with them being a republic?

I was thinking I just needed to wait longer until those cannons were developed, much like how you have it set so that you can't train musketeers until the musket is developed.

You should be able to build the Monster Ribault from the Royal Arsenal. You will also need the Musket event, hidden resource main, and stronghold rights.

It is a hidden resource that determines what are the the "core" terrirories.

If you open the descr_regions.txt, and search for main, you will see which regions have it.

So for example, trying to build advanced cannons from Venice, I go to the venice part where it says..

    Venice_Province
    Venice
    venice
    Italian_Rebels
    13 198 117
    textiles, n_euro, s_euro, main, big_trade
    5
    9
    religions { catholic 65 orthodox 10 islam 2 pagan 13 heretic 10 judaism 0 }

This means I need to have a merchant on the textiles resource before I can build them or something?

No, merchants and resources have nothing to do with it. The big_trade HR just deals with trade.

You should be able to build th Monster Ribault, Culverin, Ribault, and Bombard from the royal_arsenal.

These ar estill the vanilla values, so it probably needs to be looked at.

does this mean even though I'm into the 1600s I can't build anything better than a culverin? :-\

You can add it yourself for now.

The siege enginea are all setup as mercs, so all you need venice to the entry in the export_descr_buildings_early.txt file.

Just open the file, and search for NE_serpentine (or whatever you like). Then add venice to the list of factions.
