Default What do you think about Dubai?

    from this party thread

    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=207730

lets critisise/discuss about Dubai in terms of politics.

Thats the thing I said in that thread but i thing it unfit because it political. But what is your general opinions on Arabian kingdoms+their policies?

I thing many Arabian kingdoms should become republics, they only serve Americans. I got a book called King Abdullah and the Jews, it about the king of I forgot where, Syria or Jordan and the relation with Israel. Saudi king, the Jabirs of Kuwait and others they all serve America. They should be republics like Iran . I thing countries non-arabs that are hating Israel for the sake of the Arabs feel betrayed because of these people.

I remember someone (maybe my uncle) told me about the Sultan of the Ottomans who was offered 30-40 million pounds at that time by the Zionists to sell Filistin to the Jews but he refused. Then the British came and told Arabs to betray Turks and they give you, a new khilafah with al Quds as capital then arabs all go crazy and killed turks. The Turkish generals and soldiers in Filistin, Urdun, Iraq, 400 000 of them were sent to work on railways in Burma (believe me, burma has almost 10 million muslims) and Sri Lanka and died far from their homes because of ARabs. Now you have Israel. boo.

Wrong, I think it's a country win which only 20% are actually Emirati Arabs, it has done a lot better than any single European nation would in it's circumstances.

I remember khalif Umar (one of the Rashidoons) did not want shari'a imposed because it is not compatible with the societies in general.

    Democracy, Religion?

I have worked over there, and the biggest issue in the region that is completely ignored is that they practice near-slavery. 90%+ of the workforce is imported labor paid ~$1. Bad working conditions, poor treatment etc.

I have talked to military guys who have served in Iraq and hear the same damning things. One sergent I know actually forced at gunpoint an indian driver to take some sleep, because he had been forced to drive for 48 hours straight by his company. The Burj Dubai (tallest building in the world) actually had labor riots.

And it is all racially based. These workers are pakistani's, bangledeshi's, indians etc. They are looked down upon as less then human. You will never see an Arab serving food, picking up garbage, watering tree's, doing construction etc.

Really, if the Gulf States cannot show some basic respect for human rights, there is no need to talk about Islamic law/democracy etc. It's all paint on a rotten foundation.

It is the same way in Bahrain as well, on the outside it looks like a first world country, but if you lived there you know how the laborers live, pretty much in ghettos, 5 people stuffed in one small room, working without any safety for piss poor pay.

It is a dictatorship but selling of alcohol is alowed and in places like Dubai the nightlife is apparently pretty good. The UAE is welcoming to westerners even more so if you have lots of money.

The big big positive of UAE/Dubai is that there is no corporation or individual taxation at all. I don't mean small, I mean 0%, yes 0% tax!
It is the largest duty free in the world. Weathers nice too.

It is what happens to countries that get very wealthy, very quickly. Once oil profits go down things will not be pretty, unless they somehow manage to create another viable industry. Oh course that's age away, but still . . .
