Anyone ever watched this movie? Its about a group of British Commandos on a mission to destroy the German guns at the island of Navarone back in WW2.

I recently watched the movie, and for a movie made back in 1961, it's just great

what are your opinions about it?
Love is the most powerful thing on Earth, unless you have access to weaponry.

It was one of the first 'fantasy' war movies and is certainly entertaining. I love the bit where Gregory Peck lectures David Niven on his reluctance to get involved in the war... the guy who actually had WW2 medals!

The Guns of Navarone by Alistair MacLean (1957)

I really enjoyed the book, and the film is also good with a strong cast, (David Niven actually served with the Commandos during the War).

MacLean wrote a sequel, Force 10 from Navarone, set in Yugoslavia, which I believe was also made into a film.

Guns of Navarone was one of my favorite movies growing up, i even had the play set, which was this giant multi-story mountain thing that folded into a carrying case and came with a bag of those plastic soldiers.

To me it still holds up and as a really good adventure story. I tend to watch it on my Thanksgiving or Christmas break as an annual tradition. That and The Longest Day.
