Does it actually exists? Just like how researchers used to thought troy as only a mere legend until its very ruins were excavated.

Yes those evidences stated are pretty much logical and undeniable.

atlantis could have existed: ok, I could accept that although I'm not quite sure.
atlantis was inhabited by a group of human like aliens who had super technology:well that's just a load of crap
Love is the most powerful thing on Earth, unless you have access to weaponry.
I don't see the existence of Atlantis as possible, the story is very inconsistent. We are told that the Atlanteans perished after a failed attempt to invade Athens, however carbon-14 dating in the city of Athens only brings us to 3000 BCE and the founding of Athens is said to have been in the Third Millenium BCE, backed up by ancient authors and the like. Atlantis supposedly existed around 9000 BCE, making this thousands of years even before the founding of Athens, doubled with the fact Athens would have to have been a developed state for many many years seeing as how Atlantis is portrayed as the superpower of the time!
Second of all, Plato refers to the Atlanteans as possessing the trireme however the first use of the term was used when, according to Herodotus, the tyrant Polycrates of Samos said he could recruit 40 triremes for a Persian invasion of Egypt, this was in 525 BCE, thousands of years after Atlantis.
Plato most likely created the novels and Atlantis to illustrate his political ideologies. Many tales are similar to the Thera eruption and the Trojan war, with the basing of the failed Atlantean invasion with the real-life Athenian failed invasion of Sicily.
If we are to accept Atlantis, we must give up many key historical facts...and we would be believing one philsopher who was most likely trying to glorify his political thinkings over many many others.
Not only is it a "load of crap", but its twice that considering there are no mentions of 'aliens' in Plato's Timaeus and Critias.atlantis was inhabited by a group of human like aliens who had super technology:well that's just a load of crap

Both critics and supporters have provided good basis and logical evidences, but then what about the numerous ruins found under the Atlantic Ocean?

Lets have a look at some of the 'evidence'
Dr Ray Brown
A pyramid explored by Dr Ray Brown on the sea floor off the Bahamas in 1970. Brown was accompanied by 4 divers who also found roads, domes, rectangular buildings, unidentified metallic instruments, and a statue holding a "mysterious" crystal containing miniature pyramids. The metal devices and crystals were taken to Florida for analysis at a university there. What was discovered was that the crystal amplified energy that passed through it.
Dr. Ray Brown... hmmm.... doctor of ancient history at Harvard University?
no.
Dr. Ray Brown- naturopathic practitioner
Before you can say 'New Age Quack'-
Reports from the other divers who were with Dr. Brown at the time are unavailable since three of them have died or disappeared in the Bermuda Triangle while diving. Dr. Brown allegedly still has the crystal, which he sometimes shows to lecture audiences. Inside the round crystal can be seen a series of pyramidal forms. When one holds the crystal, a throbbing sensation is felt in the hand of the holder, whether by autosuggestion or some quality inherent in the object.
Dr. Brown does not express an opinion as to the identity of the place that he visited except to say that it was an underwater pyramid surrounded by ruined buildings. He believes that the pyramid and the other buildings extend farther down under the sea floor, with only the upper portions visible. Brown did not reveal the coordinates of the pyramid.
No I should imagine he didn't reveal the coordinates. Then again, why would he have made such a deal of a crystal? He's not using it to make money or anything-
During the mid-70's Dr. Brown practiced naturopathic medicine in a thriving office in Mesa, Arizona. His waiting room was full of people eager to receive his diagnosis and prescriptions for homeopathic medicines. Everyone had a miracle to tell. There were a couple in our family -- saving a newborn from death's door when hospital doctors had turned their hands up, and a remarkable permanent recovery from disabling pleurisy. Some of our friends had a little baby afflicted with seizures so serious he was medicated with phenobarbital around the clock. He was like a slug from the downers -- couldn't roll himself over. Dr. Brown got him off the phenobarbital, and put him on 1Million -X Homeopathic Belladonna. A few months later we got a photo in the mail from the happy parents -- the little guy was sitting up on the beach, looking at the camera and smiling. Dr. Brown's medicines were ones he personally made using special machines with ultrasound capabilities that he had designed himself. The result was, he explained, the creation of super-strength homeopathic compounds that had the vibrational imprint of the minerals and even the DNA of medicinal plants. He had an ebullient enthusiasm about his ability to cure disease... And he charged next to nothing...
These types always charge 'next to nothing', don't they?
Maxine Asher
Lets look at her academic profile:
Asher earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles, and after graduation, worked as a public school teacher. She later returned to school and earned a master's degree in ancient history from California State University, Northridge, a doctorate in education from Walden University, and a doctorate in linguistics from the University of Granada. She is married with three children, and suffers from fibromyalgia.
Okay pretty good she clearly wants to make a serious study on Atlantis with no ulterior motives:
Asher is the founder of American World University, a postsecondary distance learning institution which is commonly considered to be a diploma mill.
A degree-fraud expert who has worked with the FBI has described AWU as "dreadful, useless, and terrible", while a former temporary employee describes the operation as a "total fraud", stating that Asher told her to write comments on students' papers "so that students would feel like they were being read". University of California, Berkeley professor John Bear, an expert on diploma mills, has described AWU as a "mail drop".
Okay that's just Ad Hominem. So what?
In 1973, Asher organized an expedition, sponsored by Pepperdine University, in search of the mythical continent of Atlantis off the coast of Cadiz, Spain. Consisting of 70 teachers, students, and other interested parties, the members of the expedition planned to skin dive along the coast of Spain and Morocco, seeking evidence of the lost island. Employed at the time by Pepperdine as an audiovisual instruction expert, Asher expressed confidence from the onset that the trip would be a success.
The group subsequently claimed to have discovered and photographed Atlantean artifacts, but they were forced to seek refuge in Ireland after running afoul of the Spanish government, who believed that they were spies. Asher claims that there were murder attempts, and that at one point she was forced to jump from a moving car to evade kidnappers. She has written an unproduced screenplay about her Spanish experiences. After arriving in Ireland, her group explored inland sites around Galway Bay, Craughwell, and the Dingle Peninsula, and conducted dives in the area of Galway Bay near the coast of the Aran Islands. These Irish investigations were conducted in the belief that ancient Irish megaliths are really the work of the Atlantean people.
Uh-huh the Irish Megaliths are the work of Atlanteans... it's not impossible I guess...
Asher has claimed to have psychic abilities, and credits these abilities with helping her find Atlantis, as "the highly civilized people of Atlantis also were very psychic".According to her, Atlanteans used these psychic energies as a power source, characterizing them as being as strong as nuclear energy. She believes that the lost continent was enormous in scope, spanning the gap between Bimini and the Canary Islands, and stretching from Ireland to Newfoundland. Asher attributes its sinking to seismic upheavals, but also feels that these upheavals were the result of a cosmically ordained "Divine Retribution", a result of "negative forces" generated by its "evil" inhabitants.
Er.... well that's an interesting point of view. At least she's not blaming the Jews or something wacky.
She has also claimed that her discoveries have been suppressed by "the Jews and the Catholics" because the discovery of Atlantis would contradict the teachings of the Bible. According to her, the cataclysm that destroyed Atlantis was the same as the Great Flood described in the Bible. She also holds that there were actually twelve Noahs who survived the flood, and not just one, with each surviving Noah going on to found one of the Twelve Tribes of Israel.
Ari Marshall
Another amateur. A Greek Industrialist no less.
On the 26th of January 1977 report of a huge pyramid found off Cay Sal in the Bahamas, photographed by Ari Marshall's expedition, about 150 feet underwater. The pyramid was about 650 feet high. Mysteriously, the surrounding water was lit by sparkling white water flowing out of the openings in the pyramid and surrounded by green water, instead of the black water everywhere else at that depth.
One has to wonder if the pyramid was that large why isn't it the 'Holy Grail' of sites? Archaeologists would be rushing there, surely. It's a pity his photographs didn't come out very well.
Dr. Manson Valentine
Dr Mansan Valentine- zoologist.
Ruins of roads and buildings found off Binini Island in the 1960's by the photographed and published expeditions of Dr Mansan Valentine. Similar ruins were also photographed off Cay Sal in the Bahamas. Similar underwater ruins were found off Morocco and photographed 50 to 60 feet underwater.
Some say Valentine and Rebikoff were already supporters of Cayce, prior to the discovery. However, later on, Valentine denied the accusations.
i'm sure many people are familiar with the psychic/prophet/whatever Edgar Cayce here. It needs no futher explantion.
Geologist Eugene Shinn, while still an employee of the U.S. Geological Survey in Miami did his own analysis of the rocks and concluded that they are "beach rock", a form of limestone that forms along the tidal areas of the shoreline. He asserts:
The geometry of the formation conforms to older shorelines of the island.
Core samples taken from several rocks reveal that they formed in place because layers of stratification have identical orientation
-Similar formations are found throughout the Bahamas
-The age of the rocks is 2,000 to 4,000 years old
-Another explanation is that the "road" is an example of tessellated pavement, a natural phenomenon. Concretions of shell and sand form hard sedimentary rock which over time fractures in straight lines and then at ninety degree angles. They are quite common and a popular tourist attraction in Tasmania; some also can be seen on the coast of Venezuela.
Boris Asturua
A sunken city was discovered 400 miles off Portugal by a Soviet expedition led by Boris Asturua. He reported buildings made of extremely strong concrete and plastics and the remains of streets and monorails. All of these and other discoveries were printed in daily newspapers when they occurred, but ultimately were ignored and rejected by researchers, authorities and historians because they are unable to explain away these findings with their own, closed minded theories.
He also allegedly brought up a statue.
That's pretty conclusive, isn't it? Er... where is it, then?
That's what I love about these people they're either amateurs completely unfamiliar with scientific method, simpleters or New Age nutjobs trying to sell people things.

I'm fairly certain the OP is trolling.
Atlantis legends have likely sprung up after the Thera eruption. As for ruins, that's because sea levels were once much lower--the Black Sea's floor is littered with ruins, for example. Even the Mediterranean was been dry a few times (for more information, look up the Nile canyon).
Anyway, the point is, 'Atlantis' is interesting but most of the theories are not based in any semblance of fact.
I guess the next question is:
why is that retard that claims China colonised the world/started the renaissance taken more seriously than those quacks? No justice in this world.
So in that sense, critics about Atlantis's existance is overpowering the "quacks" on this? Though honestly, I do find some of the evidences far-fetched. And one more thing, can someone explain the incidence whereby people dug up numerous 8-12 feet tall skeletons after the discovery of the new world? The native americans well...could have grown to that height....but surely if these "giants" died, surely their native american counterparts would bury them instead of throwing their remains around no?
