help (Denmark campaign)

im playing as denmark and expanded into russia . bad idea. i had a bad economy all the way but scraped through and wiped them out. but poland ( allied but terrible relations ) expanded next to me. so control moscow warsaw helsinki the coastal town and the castle . but they have eveywere else . then i created a massive crusade army with massive upkeep so when it ended ( I was in spain ) it took ages and my economy is 10000 in the red. then england attaced with a full stack but it deserted them luckily . so im dreading another attack. and ther allies the HRE took hamburg my only western castle after a lot of tooing and froing i have regained it but not for long. my crusade army is attacking their rear but im also getting attacked by millan. any ideas? i need to keep russia garisoned incase poland betrays me. but i have no money and no troops near my capital. hopefull i can blitz the HRE and wipe them out but an english attack would destroy my home lands and millan is being naughty

You shouldn't have expanded into russia at all!!! once you take oslo and
stockholm only castles are good for making good units so since invasion on scandinavia is impossible unless they take your capital turn em into money maker citys to increase your economy.Always be aware of how many units
you have and what there upkeep is,....go to your faction stymbol on your
right side screen and check "manage taxes only" and slide the bar from
spend to save.I personally only use a select few units as denmark anyway but the main thing is to get a longboat,...load it with viking raiders and
heavy infantry like dismounted huscarls and fuedal knights and sail to
nottingham as that is the only castle in the british isles and therefor will
help you the most with huscarls to take london and others and that will
REALLY make you some money after you convert all to citys because
as castles really serve no military purpose on an island already conquered.
if you want to fix everything withdraw from russia and take my advice;you don't want to fight.besides wait until germany and poland wair each other down and then fight the winner and you'll win all....

You always want to remember after you conquer someone,think who you'll have as a new border,....you always want to choose the fight that dosn't involve 2 sided battle fronts,...especially big ones as you'll have to cut your overall army in half along with narrowing them to fill the border,..
but as one sided battle fronts you can concentrait all units on one position so you don't have to worry about garrisoning the other
side of the border and ALWAYS keep on the offensive or else you'll
constantly be horassed by small parties destined for a neighboring settlement.Sound good? concentrate your armies on england and hre
and remember!Watch your upkeep and you'll do much better considerably.

This also works if playing russia. I received similar advice from rebel6666 in my recent Russian thread.waiting.

And as for Denmark taking Novgorod -- I usually make the Baltic a Danish lake but do not go firther east. Denmark has great opportunities without taking on HRE, but take on only one at a time. Coastal warfare works best until the British Isles are Danish. Then taking a look at France, HRE, and Spain -- it makes sense to pick one when excommunicated. I might even turtle while waiting for the excommunication.

okay . i usually controll england by turn 15 but thought id do something different. the biggest problem is getting rid of the HRE. they are quite damaging.

My Lord suggests you should have wiped out the Holy Roman Empire first. Now you have quite an uphill battle to fight. But you could salvage your campaign by abandoning your settlements (pillage and sell them first of course) and migrating to England.

I would listen to Lord Felorics advice. You should give your bordering cities and castles to your most trusted allies, enemies of your bordering nation or the Papal States. Get your money issue sorted out; abandon all your unneeded units. I'd then start diplomatic talks with most of your enemies, and try fighting on one front so you can use the full force of your military capabilities on a sole target rather then spreading them across. This would be one of your best options, considering how you’re going through so many disaster events.

Wow wupwupw, what a pickle. I suggest a mass giveaway of useless settlements, namelay anything further east or south from Novgorod. Then garrison home territories with the minimal amount of cheap units, ones which are one or two deep into Danish lands. Create one small army to defend from each of England, HRE (and Milan?) and Poland. Namely dismounted huscarls, viking raiders, norse archers, some cav. Depending on how far you have expanded you should be able to afford this, control strategic bottlenecks, forts are good, try to desperately improve your economy on the defensive. Maintain good relations with the Pope and hopefully the attackers will get excommunicated and feel the wrath of France, Hungary and possibly Venice.

cheers. im not sure about giving away border settlements because they all are. and i would loose money in the long run. but i will get rid of a few eastern ones. if i gift them to poland are they still likely to betray me?

Depends always on you global reputation and standing with the faction. If you are catholic and at war with several catholic factions, I doubt the gift is effective. You might try "selling" say Moscow for some florins and a ceasefire. If the ceasefire does not hold you will still have the florins. Also -- remember that the settlement upon transfer will consume some of that faction's resources, so that alone may distract attention away from you.

lol. well done rebel. i just tried to use it but couldnt spare any money for a diplomat so i raised moscow (the population was angry anyway) and used the instant cash to reienforce my former cruseade army wich has, to date taken 4 full stacked HRE settlements. they are down to 5 left. milan and england 'offered' me 7500 between them for a ceasefire but scotland has taken stacholm and the other castle in scandanavia. and england attacked again. poland are faithful so far and are massive. as soon as i have crusehed the HRE i will boat to the isles.
