So, what faction has the most diverse unit roster? I'm interested in starting a Late Campaign, and I want a faction with a lot of different units.

Hmmm, the Spanish guys, good variety from what I know.
I find that Turks have good variety as well, except the variety is not balanced but rather some just pure crap others elite

Try Lithuania..the units from Pagan temples are particularly interesting!![]()
Non, non, non, you are all wrong!
You must try the French - these garlic socked warriors come in many interesting flavours - as a unit roster you have it all...
For missles you have the scots guards or aventeurs - both built to rock..
You have pikemen, useful militia (eg voulgiers), horse archers & the best horsies in the west...
Pour moi, France is a great faction, all dressed in a fashionable blue with matching hats...

The op is asking which nation has the most diversity, not the most units.
Diversity would be Nation A has shock troops, light spearmen, heavy spearmen, short range xbows, long range xbows, shock troops, ap troops, etc. Not Nation A has xbow militia, peasant xbows, etc., where 6 different units might all fill the exact same role.
Higher chance, but its still very misleading. High units also means many of the same type of units sometimes, and others might have one great unit that fills multiple roles
For example I would say that the HRE has
cheap anti cavalry
Heavy anti cav
pikemen
light swordsmen
heavy swordsmen
1h AP infantry
cheap 2h swords (forlorn hope)
heavy 2h swords
unbreakable infantry (forlorn hope again)
light cav
med cav
heavy cav (gothic knight, imperial knight, teutonic knight)
AP cav (gothic knight, imperial knight, teutonic knight again)
xbow cav
SR gunpowder cav
cheap archers
cheap xbows
heavy xbows
SR gunpowder infantry
For a total of about 19 different roles without considering artillery/navy
And regarding the Mongols: They have the smallest unit count, but almost all of their units fill 2 roles, sometimes even 3 roles. I'd say simply having such a multirole unit heavy roster should be considered extra points for diversity in and of itself.

I think that list is pretty usefullInteresting that some factions get over twice as many different units i.e. Mongol->HRE
member of S.I.N.
Well the Mongols were never meant to be playable![]()
You only need two units to rule the world as the Mongols. Mongolian Infantry and Mongolian Horse Archers.
Whenever I want to try a new faction I check them out at Honga.net to make sure they have what I'm looking for.

Wouldn't you want to try a new faction for a new roster, forcing you to adapt your strategy and tactics? If you're going for more of the same-old same-old, then what's the point in changing factions? The starting position doesn't matter, because you end up conquering the entire world anyway.
Just don't play with real recruitment enabled; otherwise, I find all I get to purchase are one or two types of units--very boring and not realistic.
Actually that makes it more realistic but arguably more boring.
