Your government is out of control. I wouldn't be surprised if the rise in NHS costs you have due to alcoholism and it's rise is playing a part here.

Sure I've been called a xenophobe, but the truth is Im not. I honestly feel that America is the best country and all other countries aren't as good. That used to be called patriotism.
According to the Theory of War, which teaches that the best way to avoid the inconvenience of war is to pursue it away from your own country, it is more sensible for us to fight our notorious enemy in his own realm, with the joint power of our allies, than it is to wait for him at our own doors.

"Health officials will decide on whether to ban the happy hours"
Holy crap! Doesn't it have to go through Parliament to become law??
Other forms of incentives will be introduced if this become law. Remember -- businesses want customers and sale prices are just a means to up volume sufficiently to accept a lower margin and still improve profits. This is silly and will not become English law. Whether a city government is as wise is certainly another issue. In the USA you can find a multidue of transfat, no smoking, no doggies at the table, etc. laws for our "protection". Why should the British be immune to this virus of the nanny state?

No smoking, no drinking, no driving, no guns.
What are they going to ban next! Sex!???
Blut und Boden
already done -- if you want it, you may not purchase it. Complete ban -- no "happy hours" to regulate or prohibit.
@Astaroth - Did you read my response? If the business of selling booze is allowed, retailers will promote the business. What is the problem with the concept?

Where is the massive trouble and waste specific to happy hour? There is none. This just an attempt by those who disapprove of imbibbig in general and not a solution to the massive trouble and waste created by a banker buying two whiskies for the price of one.
Better yet -- show mean such massive trouble caused by Happy Hour pricing?
Well many countries around the world are banning smoking in public places, driving ?, we can still drive no problem and as for guns, we never had them, Britain is'nt the wild west.
As for sex, no problem, we're not infected with the sort of religious puritanism that you find in some parts of the states. Remember the hoo ha when JJ showed her nipple at the SuperBowl.
Breathing I think.

If this is true and made law, that means even more bad news for the pubs and bars in my area (south essex) who are already suffering from bad business, people don't have the money, they rather buy cheaper drinks in the local supermarket and drink at home.
They won't ban it, they'll most likely put a tax on it though.![]()

Why not just refuse to give NHS treatment to people who abuse alcohol? There is no need to penalise all of us.
