    Default What the hell with managing cities??!!

    Kk,...what the hell is up with a few cities in the game??!!like tinochtitlan,cities of the opposite religion and even your capital sooner or later WILL rebel because of squalor,.....even a nice city has squaler wich i don't get.Anyone know how to counter this threat?......one time it subtracted -150% city happiness cuz of squalor,........so anyone know
    iv tried building buildings of happiness and order like town hall,taverns,...
    and entertainment but it always rebels,...so anyone know???!!!

    i just don't want to have to cuz ull have to rebuild everything!!!!

    Don't let your cities grow to the point where they become unmanageable then. If you aggressively tax and dampen population growth, you can prevent cities from becoming so crowded that there's nothing you can do to prevent a revolt.

    Alternatively, put in a general with a whole lot of chivalry and hope he lives for a very, very long time.

    Finally, contrary to what you say, exterminating the populace of a city doesn't destroy any buildings, it just kills a whole lot of civilians.

    And yes, you could work a little on the whole rudeness thing.

    Who are you to say me rude when you wildly accuse of one another?.\/.and i'v tried that and yes ask anybody that exterminating dostroys buildings!

    Olaf, I highly suggest you consider a new approach to these forums. Clear, concise, questions with relatively proper grammar, when coupled with a decent helping of humility and kindness, will get you a surprising amount of help.

    However, when one posts things which are hard to read due to lack of proper use of the English language and excessive use of punctuation, and especially when said posts are rude and hostile, one is more likely to find themselves with no help and little sympathy.

    Now, as to your question.... There is a long list of ways to help prevent excessive squalor when growing a city.

    -Keep the population from exploding. This can be done by keeping higher taxes once the city reaches certain levels. Don't race to build farms if the city is already large. Don't be afraid to raise taxes to the point the population drops.

    -Actively reduce the population. This can be done when capturing the city by exterminating. Yes, this will damage a building or two, but is well worth it if they will have population problems in the future. If this is not an option, try bringing the plague into your city with an infected spy or some such. If these still fail, leave the city, let it rebel, and then take it back and exterminate.

    -Build to create order. If you build the buildings which increase happiness and order, and in some regions there are some which reduce squalor, then this will help combat the problem.

    -Use a good governing general. Try to grow good governing generals in your main cities. These should have high chivalry, good public order traits, and should be around for any completions of good public works buildings for a chance to get more good traits.



    Finally, yes there is the search function. However, because of the number of posts here, it can often be a daunting task to find the right one for a particular question. I suggest one try to find one, but others should not complain too much if a fresh topic is made. Now, if there is the exact same question on the same page twice, then it is time for the dunce hat.

    Also.... stickies. At least peruse them.

    wow ive never had a problem with this lol. i always exterminate other religions but only occupy the same religion, unless i need money ill just sack cause it doesnt kill any people.

    Sacking does kill people, just far less than exterminating. Sacking will destroy a building down 1-3 levels, sometimes outright destorying it.

    I still don't exterminate if it's an opposing religion. Then again, I send in agents BEFORE I attack, so conversion always goes smoothly for me. Thinking ahead saves you loads of trouble.
