A good choice with a wealth of experience. Depending on how he runs his administration, the NSA can be the most powerful position (Powell under this job was very power in Reagan, more so I could argue than his Secretary of Defense and Secretary of State).

Veteran Affairs? As in Army vets or pensioners? Seems unnecessarily specific if it's the former.

Military Veterans.
It runs a series of government funded hospitals that provide medical care for former military (though those with under 50% rated disability have to pay co payments), handles disability claims of former military, administers GI Bill money, and also run veteran's programs. Has a huge amount of employees.

I seriously hope Obama gets rid of the Department of Homeland Security. It's not much more than a violation of our civil liberties and a waste of money. Let the intelligence community do its job properly.

Well, we need all the revenue we can get to start paying off this debt. DHS is a repetition of all of our intelligence agencies as well as the military.
