    Default Figured out how to defend in hotseat

    I was searching through the forums, and i found a bunch of questions, but never an answer to this infamous question, so it bugged the crap outta me so much i tried to find the answer and im positive i found one (at least for me it worked). I'm sorry if there is already a solution that works for everyone out there, i didnt find one, but this one works for Stainless Steel. I would only recommend using this w/ one computer- i can't see how it would work when uploading the saves.

    NOTE: USE FILE ON BOTTOM. IT CONTAINS THE CHANGES.

    Im going to show you what the Stainless_Steel_Kingdoms.cfg in the mods directory looks like:

    [features]
    mod = mods/Stainless_Steel_6

    [io]
    file_first = true

    [misc]
    show_hud_date = true
    ;bypass_sprite_script = 1

    [log]
    to = logs/system.log.txt
    ;level = * trace
    level = * error

    [game]
    unlimited_men_on_battlefield = 1
    event_cutscenes = 1

    [multiplayer]
    ## comment/uncomment following line to disable/enable hotseat campaign
    # playable = true
    ## faction mask for setting default starting factions in hotseat campaign
    # factions = 1 # = england, 2 = france, 4 = hre, 3 = england+france, etc

    [hotseat]
    ## disable start turn scroll in hotseat campaign
    # scroll = true
    ## disable forced separate human faction turns (including diplomacy) in hotseat campaign
    # turns = false
    ## enable cheat console in hotseat campaign.
    # disable_console = true
    ## specify password for administrator access to the dev console when console disabled. Change 'password' to a suitable password
    # admin_password = password
    ## enable camera updates during ai turn in hotseat campaign
    # update_ai_camera = true
    ## enable voting in papal elections in hotseat campaign (only first valid human faction votes)
    # disable_papal_elections = true
    ## disable forced autoresolve all battles in hotseat campaign
    # autoresolve_battles = false
    ## disable diplomacy validation for incoming propositions
    # validate_diplomacy = false
    ## disable forced relevant hotseat options to be saved with game.
    # save_prefs = false
    ## autosave hotseat game at start of players turn
    # autosave = true
    ## save config file in save dir containing information about next players turn
    # save_config = true
    ## close medieval II directly after a hotseat autosave
    # close_after_save = false
    ## sub directory name for hotseat save games
    # gamename = hotseat_gamename
    ## ensure game data files used in previous save match current campaign data files.
    # validate_data = true
    ## prevent game to load if savegame or data validations fail
    # allow_validation_failures = false

    [multiplayer]
    playable = true
    [hotseat]

    turns = false
    scroll = false
    autoresolve_battles = false
    disable_console = true
    disable_papal_elections = true
    save_prefs = true
    update_ai_camera = true
    validate_diplomacy = true

    again, i want to apologize because i kind of shotgunned the whole thing, so i modified a bunch of things at once but it works now. If you guys want me to narrow it down further, i'll be happy to find out what the real kicker was.

    Obviously, this is set to my preferences, but if you want a rundown of what each one means, again ill be more than happy to tell you. I know i wasnt the only one frusterated with this no defend policy.

    This allows you to defend against the ai, and it allows you to attack humans, although the human army is ai-controlled. Sorry again if this was already out there. Hope this helped

    Ressurecting a thread here:

    Isn't that cfg-file a bit messed up. There are many duplicate statements - some with a # in front and some not.

    could I just copy this and it would work? And who gets to play if two hotseaters fight each other?

    Thanks in advance

    That doesn't work for me.. I still can't defend. But know when my princess marries some noble from let's say England, that last name stays.

    This works for me, only I noticed that you can't play Norway or the Kwarezmians for example. Any fix for this?

    The reason you can't defend in hotseat campaigns is because there are scrolls.

    Remove the scroll option and passwords WILL let you defend no matter how many factions you play.

    Same question here, I tried to follow exactly what was said in the 1st post, and it didn't work, still not able to defend vs ai. Triple checked everything, still didn't work. I'm on SS 6.1 without any submods except permanent arrows.

    Help would be greatly appreciated. We're trying to make a hotseat campaign with a friend and not being able to defend is a bit odd...

    Hi gents, could anyone give me some precise details on how to exactly enable the human player to defend himself ?

    Thanks, much appreciated.

    what he means by scrolls are the scrools that tell you the rules at the start of each turn for each human faction.

    Ok i uploaded the file, i hope it works. sorry for the lack of response.

    I don't have M2TW installed right now: reformated my computer a bit ago and it still doesnt want to behave right. sorry if i get the path wrong, but just copy this over your Stainless_Steel_Kingdoms.cfg which should be in the mods folder. As for copying, yes, you can copy the whole thing over your file. of course, make a copy first.

    Alarim: that is really wierd, i have no idea why. do you know any of the other factions it wont work for, or is it just the two?

    magraev: in the campaign when you use your army to attack another human, the attacker will take control and the defender will switch into ai control.

    as for the scrolls, the file i uploaded has them disabled. the file i uploaded is also the file i was using, not the one i copied onto the thread. so they are both different, but once you look at them, it isnt too hard to figure out what each option changes. please let me know if this works, i really do want to figure this out. may have to reinstall M2TW and SS all over again if i can get the comp to work right

    just open the rar, and extract the file inside it to the mod folder (i think, just look for where the file is and extract it into the same place, overwrite if it asks, but make sure you have a copy)

    Thanks (+rep). I'll dl it after work and try it.

    I hope it works. Would like to play a hotseat game with my son, but without defending it's just not the same.

    it should be, although some are having problems. like i said before, this is a little different from the example i posted in the first post, but the options are easy to understand once you read them. i would be happy to find out what specifically each one does if someone wants me to.

    please let me know if anyone has any other problems.
