"An investigation was launched after the remarks, made by Jon Gaunt on his Talksport radio show, generated "a number" of complaints from listeners.

During a show earlier this month, Gaunt was interviewing councillor Michael Stark about Redbridge Council's ban on smokers becoming foster parents.

Mr Stark defended the decision on the grounds that the welfare of young children should be put ahead of the needs of foster families.

But Gaunt, who was in care as a child, accused his interviewee of being a "Nazi" and an "ignorant pig".

A Talksport spokesman said: "Talksport terminated presenter Jon Gaunt's contract following an interview with Redbridge Council's Councillor Michael Stark on Friday, November 7."

He added: "The decision follows an internal Talksport investigation that was instigated following complaints about the content and nature of the broadcast.

"The radio station has apologised to the councillor for the manner in which the interview was conducted." "

Jon Gaunt was sacked from Talksport recently. Although I can't say I agree with everything he said, in fact I would say he was a complete arse, he was nonetheless great entertainment, very much the anti-George Galloway. He hated New Labour, PC, "dole scroungers" etc and never made a secret of it.

He called some Tory politician a Nazi because he wanted to ban smokers from fostering children. An unwarranted outburst perhaps, but quite understandable from someone who I understand had a very deprived childhood having spent some time in care. I was looking forward to hearing his rants over Xmas. I am quite miffed that he should forced to go. It was hardly a crime.

Fired over that? I don't even really see much wrong with calling the guy a nazi I mean its just his opinion, on his show and the banning smokers from fostering kids is nazi leaning.
Oh and he grew up a foster kid so he definitely knows how it goes.

Another win for peoples' beloved PC. Sick. I call my roomate, a US Army officer, a Nazi or a commie all the time. For fun. We do that. When we get into heated debates, it's not as fun at the time, but we shake it off and have another beer.

I guess the media company that he was fired from is trying to become the same as the one in "V for Vendetta." That was free press, if I ever saw it. Not to mention there's people on here who I am pretty sure sympathize with that type of limitation of free speech, too. Maybe it's just the way of the new world.

It's not his show, he's just contracted for that show. The radio company reserves the right to hire and fire employees as it wishes.

For the record I agree with the Tory on this, heavy smoking is terrible for children to be brought up in and around. An all out ban, no, but preferring non-smokers over smokers, yep.

Since the sacking, petitions and websites have been created to persuade talkSPORT to reconsider the sacking of one of the stations most popular presenters

November 2008 - DJ Rod Lucas was fired when the membership list of the BNP that was leaked and published on a Google blog named him as one of its members.

Gotta love the last one it ties in so wonderfully with the BNP membership thread. Typical independent radio stations they're all closet racists and nazis. Apparently.
