So you cannot just play as one of the sub factions
If you would like, just kill of all of your non-spartan family members at the start (send them on a boat ride to the afterlife) and you'll have only spartans for the rest of the campaign. And if you want to further roleplay it, abandon all cities but Sparta and maybe take Crete, then work from there. Its fairly easy to set up, and actually, there is a Spartan provincial campaign being worked on in the Sub-mod section, but its not finished yet...
i dont think it will be finished in the near future like all mods. ive been waiting for a mod for 2 months and i just gave up waiting for it.
scutarii, ive tried drowning all my non spartan generals but the rate of production of generals is really poor, furthermore you get so many messages for a suitor for your older daughters that are non spartan. im praying that the spartan provincial campaign is finished soon because lets face it, the main reason ppl play the greek city states is for the spartans. amirite?
Well, speaking just for myself, no. In the game's period of history the Spartans were a mildly interesting minor footnote and achieved nothing of significance except their self inflicted decline. Even in classical antiquity I find the Athenians much more interesting. I like the GCS faction because it is styled and themed to resembled a kind of 'pan hellenic classical greece' that does interest me.
Same here. I've never gotten into the Sparta craze... Other Greek states are more or at least as interesting as them, for me.
@aznflea: Actually, a prov campaign isn't terribly difficult to set up, or at least Caeser Vincens and Dime could set them up in no time at all, so I wouldn't expect a huge wait for it, even if it a little more ambitious than some of the others (more unique units, needs some balancing at game start, etc.) That said, the maker is quite busy at the moment and has halted work for the moment.
Thanks for advice. Now all non spartans will DIE!!![]()
Thou too art mortal.
ive always liked sparta cuz of their demonstration of strength and discipline. their noble and honourable nature really cut into me.
i myself would much rather enjoy a release of xgmd than a sparta prov campaign
There is a term called Laconophilia that means the admiration of Sparta http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laconophile , but like many others here I think my favourite ancient Greek city would be Athens. Also Corinth (Korinthos), Syracusa and Miletos (in Ionia) had quite interesting history.
Like Webba said I also like the idea of classic panhellenism where those old rivals could one more time to unite their forces like they did in the Greco-Persian Wars between 499 BCE and 448 BCE. As a part of those wars there were so-called Ionian Revolts in Asia Minor in 499-493 BCE.
Afterwards it is interesting to notice that "Yona" and "Yavana" were transliterations of the Greek word for "Ionians" who were probably the first Greeks to be known in India. It is said that the Greek presence was more prominent in Bactria than in areas far more adjacent to Greece could possibly be explained by the supposed policy of Persian kings to deport unreliable Greeks to this the most remote province of their huge empire. So there might have been some Greeks in Bactria before Alexander the Great and the Seleucids. But this is a little bit controversial theory...
