Alright, here is a good formation I usually used in my early armies, The frontal horses are all archers and the infantry.... you know who they are.
Now I'm against a tough Seleucid army, which comprises of:
1 General
3 Phalanx Pikemen
4 Levy Pikemen ( to represent early situations )
3 Light Cavalry
2 Desert Infantry ( I call them counterpart of eastern infantry with higher attack and lower defense than the true easterners)
As proof:
Parthians had 2 advantages ahead of the Seleucids, which are:
just blitz em with all arrows and you should done 3/4 part of the battle ( even with 350 HAs if you count, but I think it's too much. )
YOU! for tactical ability against the AI idiots.
Battle started, I moved 3 units of saber cavalry to the left flank of the Seleucids. ( aka 240 guys, too excess I think. ) to overcome the enemy cavalry. Higher stats, higher numbers, and higher firepower makes it a clear victory at the cavalry fight.
My HAs are almost done reducing the front line of my enemies, As evidence, the phalanx pikemen are just left almost to shreds.
Now the saber cavalry mentioned before had some problem. The desert infantry, as spearmen manged to catch my cav guys unnoticed by me.
But I do approve it if you say the enemy general is super brave. He dared charging just with the diminished 8 bodyguards against a Persian Cavalry with 65 men! ( see the arm of the westernmost, it's the general.)
Meanwhile, I had led the remaining unit of saber cavalry to flank the desert infantry aka neutralize it. Seemed a success for now.
The enemy general is dead ( forgot to take the picture ) But his men still fought bravely, despite the tides clearly against them. In reaction of this, Parthian morale seems to decrease a bit at such a fierce competition.

A clear victory, heroic, if the saber cavalry was not caught with the desert infantry.
