Obese have right to 2 airline seats --Canada court

OTTAWA, Nov 20 (Reuters) - Obese people have the right to two seats for the price of one on flights within Canada, the Supreme Court of Canada ruled on Thursday.

The high court declined to hear an appeal by Canadian airlines of a decision by the Canadian Transportation Agency that people who are "functionally disabled by obesity" deserve to have two seats for one fare.

The airlines had lost an appeal at the Federal Court of Appeal in May and had sought to launch a fresh appeal at the Supreme Court. The court's decision not to hear a new appeal means the one-person-one-fare policy stands.

The appeal had been launched by Air Canada (ACa.TO: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz), Air Canada Jazz (JAZ_u.TO: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) and WestJet (WJA.TO: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz). (Reporting by Randall Palmer)

As a social liberal, I typically agree with my country's Supreme Court (such as the one legalizing abortion), but in this case I can't help but feel outrage. This decision will cost the average (that is, not-obese) Canadian air traveler, because we will all have to subsidize in our airfares the cost of giving fat people two seats.

This is a case of some people becoming more equal than others: Now, a select few will be guaranteed preferential treatment.

Is it right for the government to force airlines to give fat people two airline seats for the cost of one?

Absolutely not. This is an absurd of epic proportions: they could make some sort of "reserved" area, but two seats for one is ridiculous.

Human rights laws strike another blow to sanity. I'm guessing thats what got it through right? Over in the UK, stuff's always got thruogh by the European Human Rights laws, which are so vague that almost anything can be interpreted as breaching it.

If I ever have to fly on Air Canada, and I see a fat person taking up two seats, I'm going to smash my single-serving meal into the fat

The charge of assault will be firmly worth it.

Fat ass.

If don't do that, I'm going to horribly degrade the miserable fatty until the fetid beast forces a stewardess to move me to another part of the plane.

The fine or charge leveled against me will be firmly worth it.

I have no objections to fat

This kind of thing really pisses me off...it is THEIR CHOICE to become fat

I have extra long legs, but that doesn't mean I get to remove the seat in front of me.

Well...this is really really stupid. I guess this is just a bit more evidence that the Supreme court requires some oversight from the people- think how long it will take to get such an idiotic decision to be overturned?
