Default [M2TW AAR] Better to rule in Hell than Serve in Heaven

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

I am receiving guidance and regular feedback from Rebel6666 during the making of this AAR.

Vanilla AAR as Poland, a narration of a dreaded family tree of an excommunicated faction wishing for their names to remembered for generations.

The Polish ruling family comprises of two young but highly capable relatives, King Zbigniew, Prince Boleslaw. They are feared men who have risen to become the most powerful men in Poland through political cunning, well placed plots including the suspicious death of their father and by excelling on the battlefield. Whilst neither men are religious they harbour watchful eyes from the Papacy and Christian neighbours, neither man can be rightfully trusted. And now they have been joined by their brother-in-law Pryzyce, Poland must be watched.

Unpronounceable Polish names aside, I love the premise, and the title of the AAR.

    I will be watching!

With the realm secured and no possible rebellions for some time to come, who would being ruled by these beasts, King Zbigniew could look to the horizon. Breslau had long been thought of as a Polish village, it was little more than a few houses but it defied Zbigniew's rule like many other small fiefdoms in the area and would be an easy target to put a little fear into neighbouring Thorn.

Prince Boleslaw rode out from Krakow into the woodland he knew so well from his early years. He knew it would be winter before he arrived, excellent white snow as canvass for the blood of his foes.

Ahh so beautiful Breslau looked, if post cards had been invented then surely they would be fronted by this village. Boleslaw deployed his troops for battle; "Men, you see those chimneys smoking, come, let us ride into the warmth, let no man stand in your way, forward!" The Prince rode his sturdy steed into the village, he saw the weak civillians scuttling for cover into their homes, heard the faint click of locks behind the doors and laughed to himself. They were not safe from Prince Boleslaw.

The infantry collided with a thud in the town plaza, the strength and numbers of the Polish army were forcing the rebels back and down, thrust and block, thrust and block, thrust and block, the highly drilled militia killed so effortlessly. Boleslaw rode into the plaza and crushed the remaining resistance with a frightful charge into the woodmen who thought they could defy a nation, at least some trees have been saved from their vile axes. A clear victory for Boleslaw and as a arning signal to anyone who defies Poland, the men were put to the sword and Boleslaw though of the faint clicks of locks once more, "men, do yourselves proud, let no item of value escape you pillage and loot!"

With the diplomatic balance of Eastern Europe crumbling and Poland quickly becoming a state of terror Hungary came running for an alliance. They showered us in gifts, trade rights and map information. Ha! Now we know the locations of their valued cities, or maybe they were not so. Other factions followed like hounds with their tails between their legs, Holy Roman Empire, Denmark, Milan and Russia. trade flowed, prized maps flooded into Krakow. They deemed a payment of 1000 Florins a high demenad for an alliance, they shall soon see that that was a small sum for their safety.

Around this time our great King was challenged in congress, I see no need for such meetings these days as Poland is a dictatorship, two young men named Marcin and Stanislaus stood up and addressed the court, I have their speech here; 'Wise men, for how much lonnger will you allow this animal to rule your lives, how much longer will you allow him to create such a dreaded, Satanly kingdom with your backing?' That was as far as they got before King Zbigniew stood; 'Boys, you are not quite yet true men but you do have nerves of steel, alas you cannot be a part of my greatness, assemble your supporters and flee, await your death o the battlefield.'

They had nigh on 150 supporters, maybe more who dare not openly challenge the King who rode out to meet them. Upon his steed himself and close retinue charged the rabble before him. A clash of steel on bone, the rebellion was over before it had started, not one upstart lived to flee.

This was not the last time our Great King had to ride out to defend his crown that year, the father of Marcin refused to go into exile. 'King, come meet me in battle, my son's foolishness to lead untrained men paid off, come face an army in noble battle.' And so Zbigniew rode out with a fraction of Poland's might which must have brought fear to Grodzimir for he was ambushed in the woods and quickened to battle.

Bloodlust burning inside King Zbiniew a battline was formed, well disciplined troops wheeled about to face the enemy emerging from the trees, trained militia they were but no match for the king's forces.

As the two sides clashed Godzimir's forces crumbled and fled, charged down and slain by Zbigniew himself.

The might of the ruling family was growing, now they could turn to their borders once more, who would be next to feel his wrath?

Could you add in a picture of your diplomatic stand with other faction and the Pope so we can determine your next objective without hurting us to much in the meantime.

Without the need of a picture, allied to Hungary (who paid me to be their ally), only at war with Rebels(6666) Pope still feels no ill will despite me destroying churches and ignoring his missions.

IMO don't destroy churches this can be a real Pine in the back, building churches won't play a role on your Dread so keep them to keep unrest down and your own people happy. But hey this is only an advise. Take it or leave it.

OK next steps you will need to decide who will be your next enemy.

Edit: My advice would be to take down Russia this would solidify your empire in growth but also in money making I wouldn't attack the Catholic factions yet as you will need a good money amount to back you up. Plus taking out Russia would secure one side of your border

"Sire, we ar at war with Hungary."
    "really? How did this happen?"
"Some minor engagement, outside Krakow my Lord."
"Very well, oh and guard, my dog is hungry, feed him this juicy worm." Oh the screems echoed around that hall that day, terrible. It was livened up slightly by the messenger's last words "Oh and your step-son is dead" Nice of him to share that information.

As you well know that left Zbigniew and Boleslaw as the only nobles in Poland to continue their onlaught of Europe, no rebel town could compete with their might and threw open their gates through fear or good sense, Poland was growing. Boleslaw and Zbigniew could now focus their attention on the Empire.

In the winter of that year both lead a band of mercenries deep into enemy lands, behind the lines and on their own they had to command thier small forces well. Boleslaw camped near a strategic bridge crossing while the King campaed a few mile to the south. Here they cut off valuable reinforcements effectively splitting the empire in two.

I was with Boleslaw when he came under attack. I remember him scanning every directio for a foe, and spot them he did. A full half of Polish forces were on the bridge being attacked from all sides, a full half of Polish forces on the verge of destruction. This is how the day progressed as far as I can remember.

"Spearmen, hold that bridge, captains Merka and Basilov get over there now. Rusilev, Tchak, Stanislav, hold the line behind them, we are being attacked on all sides but we do not have the man power to perform a complete defensive square, this however allows the cavalry commander, including myself, to freely move and kill as many of these scum as we can. Spearmen, they are crossing the bridge brace yourselves men. Crossbows... FIRE!"

"Cavalry.. with me.. charge!" With the bridge secure Boleslaw the Brave lead his cavalry into the vast hordes of lightly armoured militia, still a daunting task which caught the enemy off guard. Upon seeing this heroic act of bravery from Boleslaw the remaining spearmen engaged and pinned as many Empire forces as they could.

The fighting was furious, losses were high on both sides but the hammer and anvil tactic of Boleslaw prevailed and Prince Leopold was sent running for the hills. Boleslaw was caught up in the fight, striking wildly at fleeing foes. "Prince!" I shouted "Our spearmen are losing contol of the bridge!" Boleslaw screamed to the sky wheeled his horse around, shouting now for his bodyguard to follow him, and in a frightful charge they thundered onto the bridge, horses biting, men howling in gritted determination, the last of Leopold's forces fled but were soon captured and in true Polish style, executed. The victory witnessed here today was truly great. Boleslaw!
