    Default Vista ongoing issues

I know this gets addressed somewhat in multiple threads and in multiple ways but what I'm wondering is:

    a) is there a more permanent fix short of constantly deleting that .bin file as it regenerates.
    b) what is the root cause and is someone actively looking to fix it.

I love this mod, it's an amazing piece of work, but I will not play it when I get to a point 30 or 40 turns in that it crashes every other turn.
    thanks

    Hi Chappy,

I have the same problem as you : I'm using Vista32 and I had a regular CTD during Maggyar's turn at a moment (after 30 or 40 turns, It depends) with the previous versions of DLV 5.7.

So, It's a complete mystery at this point.

I'm not playing with the new version because of this problem.

However, the "hot fix" (deleting the .bin files when the CTD appears) is a good news : you can continue your campaign.

    Best regards.

I totally understand that, upgrading to Vista 64 HP has basically thrown me out of the DLV homestead. Constant crashing, buggy events, other stuff. And I totally know how to install the mod properly, been doing it for fricken years without any problems on XP. Maybe the installer isn't totally 64 OS compatible, maybe I screwed up with .net framework (though it shows correctly), anyhow I can't really continue with either playing or modding under these conditions.

Funny, I have Vista 64 Ultimate and I've had no real issues at all except for maybe an occasional CTD on turn change that goes away after starting the game again.

I'm not entirely sure if your issues are native to Vista or whether there is another spanner in the works.

I'm in the same boat as Furin, been nothing but heartache ever since installing vista 64... I read these forums, and i dream of being able to play again. But vista lets me down everytime... I'm sad...

    I need my DLV fix!
Show me a pint of beer, and I'll give you an empty glass.

I have Vista 32, and when I erased some irrelevant files in imperial_campaign - I was able to play and load. If you have CTD when trying to load game - erase imperial_campaign.script.bin, all copies of description_strat (you don't need them anyway), campaign_script.bak, descr_strat.txt.bak and every other bak file. That worked for me!
p.s. I changed some things in descr_strat, just so you know...maybe that was my problem in the first place (but I don't think so). Anyway - you could try this - but always make back-up files!

I feel pretty confidant that it's a Vista issue for me, I loaded 5.73 on an older, XP machine, and it runs with zero CTD, tho it's such an under-powered PC, it runs super slow, and is unplayable. Zmaj, I'll try your fix and see what I can break! thanks!

You're welcome...don't know how strong you machine is, but to me the most important thing is that the loading is available.

Are there any new developments in regard to Vista crashes??? Love the mod, but crashes sucks...

I don't even have vista and it still crashes on me all the time.

I have vista 64 and yeah it gives frequent ctd. Sometime I notice if I just start playing DLV for the day I get a crash on the first end of turn I do. I clear the .bin again after the crash and if I don't quit the game and keep playing I don't get CTDs for a long time (by the way I always delete the .bin files before playing). Eventually it does CTD but a good long run is better than every other turn.

However, on Vista 64 I can never complete my game and the latest date I have gotten to is 1265, no further. I love this mod and I play it even if I get CTD, I have even stopped playing ETW and returned to DLV for the game play and challenge but the Vista issue is a killer.

Thorolf was thus armed. Then Thorolf became so furious that he cast his shield on his back, and, grasping his halberd with both hands, bounded forward dealing cut and thrust on either side. Men sprang away from him both ways, but he slew many. Thus he cleared the way forward to earl Hring's standard, and then nothing could stop him. He slew the man who bore the earl's standard, and cut down the standard-pole. After that he lunged with his halberd at the earl's breast, driving it right through mail and body, so that it came out at the shoulders; and he lifted him up on the halberd over his head, and planted the butt-end in the ground. There on the weapon the earl breathed out his life in sight of all, both friends and foes. [...] 53, Egil's Saga
I must tell you here of some amusing tricks the Comte d'Eu played on us. I had made a sort of house for myself in which my knights and I used to eat, sitting so as to get the light from the door, which, as it happened, faced the Comte d'Eu's quarters. The count, who was a very ingenious fellow, had rigged up a miniature ballistic machine with which he could throw stones into my tent. He would watch us as we were having our meal, adjust his machine to suit the length of our table, and then let fly at us, breaking our pots and glasses.

I also have vista 32, i already found a threat with regard to this possible solution, only this thread only told to delete the bin files in mods/dlv_ext/data/text folder. Deleting this bin files works for about 6/10 turns (playtime over a hour so fine with me to do it over.over.over and over again but far from ideal). So next weekend i shall try to delete the other mentioned files but with regard to that i have some question.
    1. it doesnt matter witch campaign i play? main or custom campaign i simply need to remove the files in mods/dlv_ext/data/world/maps/campaign/imperial campaign
    2. Is the above mentioned path is correct?
    3. Can you be more precise about what kind of files i need to delete

After this i will give feedback wether it worked or not

    Vista:
delete a DLV catalog you have on the computer before updating DLV to 5.71
if you have a catalog at this location, delete it before installing the mod.
    C:\Users\[Username]\appdata\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War"

Not relevant sinds i play 6.0 with patch 6.1 (and yes i did read the manual about how to install, some people do )
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------
for vista problem: open DLV_ext.cfg in path C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\mods\DLV_ext and change the parameters to: then restart the game
    [video]
    widescreen=0
    movies = false

This is a solution i also read about but witch i simply can not do because at the metioned location there isnt a DLV_ext.cfg file. There is a Dlv_ext file??? I also doubt wether this is still up to date with regard to the 6.0 version and the 6.1 patch. This because there is also a file in this location called dlv_extcfgfixer
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------
I wish to help to find the solution. Only problem is i am not that good with computers so need to know in dummy language. Hope to be able to help and find the problem because the mod is great!!!

Nope Reinoldus, none of these solutions work. Basicly Microsoft ripped anyone who bought Vista of with an OS that degrades everything except the UI. I honestly feel like downloading XP again.

After 100 or so turns I get regular CTDs when I double-click on a unit or set a unit to retrain. It's a pain in arse, but I love DLV too much to let it get to me. I've tried all the suggested tips, but it still happens every now and then. I find that counting to three between clicking the mouse is helpful (albeit a little annoying).

...then it's not vista, but a 15197 line collum 46-error. I get it to, post your last 100 lines of your log in the bug thread. How-to-log, can be found in the first post.

remember that i had no problems?

that was 100 turns ago. now i do have a lot of ctds.

they happen when i click in recruitment window, construction window, attack order...

i had no ctds while at battle mode, always in campaign.

i think it may have something to do with sounds.

have anyone installed xeno and still have problems? just in case.
