    Interesting.

OK, that's it, I think this thread is completely irrelevant after the summarizing note above was said, and can be locked.

A French-owned satellite company has a Russian company as the winners. Wow. I thought Eurovision voting was bad.

just wait. they will come back with the usual "Russian media is still under Kremlin's thumb" cliche and that Putin murders journalists and eats babies for breakfast.

So how are the winners chosen? Because according to your link the Jury prize goes to Euronews, if it's the public who chose....epic fail.

In Putin's Russia, awards win you.

In all fairness I've never seen RBC-TV and they are probably very professional, informative and deserve it so well done them.

According to Freedom House, Russia ranks joint 164th (alongside Azerbaijan) out of 195 countries sampled in terms of media freedom. link

I'm not a massive fan of Freedom House, but I thought I'd put it out there.

Edit: I noticed Fox Italy won the fiction award.

To be fair, its not like North Korea was above them. They're on a par with Ireland and the US. They're doing well. When you have laws about Holocaust denial and displaying Swasticas you can't expect to be no. 1.

The Germans are against anything Nazi, however their version of ''Nazi'' encompasses alot of forms of German Nationalism. They don't ban all of it with MPs or whatever but there is a notable taboo on German history. It doesn't list them along the Axis of Evil but I think the US scores higher than them.

Oh I see, you think they are too high. My mistake. You may be right. I think the reason the US doesn't do so well is that the media is incredibly centralised, meaning it is controlled, largely speaking, by just a few corporations.

At least RBC-TV is in cooperation with CNN and CNBC, it makes them fair and even, unlike certain Russian state-owned news agencies, take Pravda for example:

Attilasloviak, Pravda.Ru isn't state owned.. It's a normal tabloid newspaper.
