Default Al-Qaeda declares war on Iran?

The abduction of an Iranian attaché in Pakistan can be interpreted as the onset of war between Iran and al-Qaeda, says a senior militant.

"This is payback time for Iran and for its active involvement in destabilizing the Taliban government in Afghanistan and for facilitating the US-led invasion on Afghanistan through pro-Iranian Afghan groups," Italy's Adnkronos International news agency quoted a senior militant as saying on condition of anonymity.

"[The diplomat was kidnapped in retaliation for] the arrest of top al-Qaeda leaders in Iran, for facilitating the US invasion on Iraq through pro-Iran militias and last but not the least for waging the war on the Taliban," claimed the militant.

The news agency did not reveal whether the questioned militant had ties with al-Qaeda.

Unknown gunmen kidnapped Iranian diplomat Heshmatullah Attarzadeh-Niyaki on his way to the Iranian consulate on Thursday in the northwestern Pakistani city of Peshawar. His driver was killed during the attack.

Pakistani police have so far arrested five suspects in connection with the case, but the whereabouts of Attarsadeh-Niyaki is still unknown.

A senior Pakistani political advisor, Rehman Malik, said Friday that the unidentified gunmen belonged to the notorious Taliban umbrella group, Tehrik-e-Taliban, although no group has yet claimed responsibility.

The anonymous militant claimed that al-Qaeda will carry out 'more attacks and actions… against Iranian interests in coming days'.

The Islamic Republic was a leading opponent of the Taliban when the radical regime ruled Afghanistan from 1996 to 2001. The two neighbors came close to war in 1998 after the Taliban killed nine Iranian diplomats in the central Afghan city of Mazar-i-Sharif.

While US officials continue to accuse Iran of arming militants in Afghanistan and destabilizing Iraq, an October report by the MIT Center for International Studies confirmed that Tehran made major contributions to the war against the Taliban following the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

I guess that makes the enemy of my enemy my friend, as always in that part of the world. Which enemy we team with is up to interpretation, but I sure as hell ain't teaming with the Taliban or Al Qaeda.

wait a second here. The lebanese surely hate Iran. Only the shiite Lebanese love Iran, but I don't even consider those as lebanese but more like leaches or something.(I can really go on expressing my hate for them, but meh).

So yeah, we hate Iran's guts.

I was referring to the state apparatus and government not the people. If we went by what people thought, then there is a lot more people that don't hate Iran.

This would be the only good thing al-Queda has ever done
I wonder what you would say if it was a Lebanese diplomatic servant.

How anyone could regard kidnapping someone as "good" is beyond me. Makes about as much sense as considering an entire ethnicity leeches on the rest of the nation just because they have a different widedpread religious belief.

Ediy: Valiant, I hope you are joking. First of all, the Russian and especially the Chinese militaries have some the best anti-virus software in the world, and nothing that exists today could do the kindof of damage that you are talking about. Even if there was, in the situation your talking about the Generals would not be stupid enough to sit around, and all the President would need to do would be to run down to the local electronics shop and buy a computer.

Secondly, China and Russia have great covert ops, and many many sattellites. Even if you could sneak an EMP past them you wouldn't be able to get anywhere near all of them, and even if you did the EMP only lasts a short while.

Thirdly, using nuclear weapons in a war of that scale would literally cause every single nation on earth to declare war on you, massive sacale uprisings at home, and a large does of nuclear missiles thrown back at you by all the other nuclear nations.

Fouthly, the Death Star was more powerful then a nuke.

First of all, I didn't consider them as leeches because of their religious belief. They could worship Zeus for all I care.

This is the reason why I called them leeches:
A leech is some parasite like creature that sucks the blood of humans and animals.

Now as for the lebanese shiites (meaning hizbollah), well they have there own mini country inside the main country, and they are always engaged in action of blackmailng the government and the rest of the lebanese.

    notice anything in common?

Your nation? The USA? I doubt the USA would team up with Iran somehow, I would hope we could use them in this war, but unlikely.

Actually we have provided behind the scenes support for the Iranian border control efforts in West Iran. Don't tell anyone though, the US is supposed to be on the verge of war according to the media...

Anyways, the Iraqi people aren't a big fan of Iran, just the exile-led government which has a love-hate relationship with Iran.

Now back to reality. The Middle-East is in a the middle of a Cold War between Riyadh and Tehran. The Saudis are supporting the Taliban's survival as a way of fighting the current Iranian-leaning governments in Pakistan and Afghanistan. The Iranians are supporting Special Groups in Iraq to fight the possibly Arab-leaning government of Iraq (Iraq's government in its current leadership has a good chance of leaning towards the Arab States over Iran). Saudis indirectly support Sunni Movements in Iraq to ensure it leans to the Arab side. Al-Qaeda supports neither side, but hates the Iranians as much if not more than Riyadh. The US is really caught in the middle with Iraq and Afghanistan being used as the battlegrounds of the two sides. Due to the Sunni Awakening and the Iraqi Governments shift against the Iranian supported militias Iraq may be leaning towards the Arab States more than before or they could be shifting to the Iranian side with the government being made up of exiles.

I wouldn't say an unstable Iraq, but only semi-stable, as in there is no immediate probability of it collapsing (as would be unstable) but if a few things go wrong the chance it will fall is great.

Unstable would be Somalia, Semi-Stable puts it in line with like Pakistan...

If this is true, the better - killing two birds with one stone. Weakening Al-Quaeda is always good and occupying Iran with something else other than nuclear programs or threatening Israel cannot hurt either.
