Default Bailing out the Big 3

If you watch Morning Joe right now, you'll see an AMAZING sparks-flying conversation/fight over it. On one side, the east-coast elitist globalists Mica and Christia(na?) versus the populists and realists, Joe, Jeff and Pat. Willie, however, is nowhere to be found :hmmm:.

They do post some of the vids online, but I guess this thread can serve as a place to discuss the topic (as after a cursory glance I haven't seen another, though I am deliriously exhausted).

So. Corporate bailout? With what conditions? Chapter 11? Worker bailout and corporate collapse?

And WHAT is with these republicans from the south steering us into depression? I can certainly say, with half my family working in the car factories, they WILL vote democratic for national politics if the republicans hand them dick. These are the social conservatives, as well. Wave goodbye to the midwest...

How exactly can the auto industry be given a bailout? All the money is already gone; any bailout given to them will need to be accompanied by the printing of hundreds of billions of new dollars. That will just make the problem worse.

The U.S Auto industry - at least in its current form - is dead. Finished. Yes that's right, millions of Americans who work in the industry will all be losing their jobs very, very soon.

My condolences to half your family, mate. If they ask you why it happened, tell them it was because of the men behind the curtain.

I'm not sure how I feel about the bailout. On one hand I generally would favor tough love. I don't think people learn anything unless a little hardship is associated with it (not in every case...but most)...

On the other I know first hand what desperate people are capable of. Based on that I couldn't support a plan that could potentially create hundreds of thousands, possibly millions, of desperate people.

I heard a guy, some conservative radio show host, on CNN last week express his feelings toward all the people who may be adversely affected by the collapse of the big three.

    His feelings: tough

He basically said it's the employees fault for being in the situation they're in. He said, in essence, someone would have to be a fool to continue working for an obviously failing industry. He seemed to have a negative opinion on the idea of "generations" of a family working for the same company.

    THERE ARE NO OTHER JOBS.

How out of touch is the rest of the country that they don't understand that whole cities, which are already struggling because of the declining American car industry, will be completely wiped out.

There will be no free market at work. There will be NO market, there will be NO jobs.

We have the chance to utilize nation-driven industry to put our country on the top of the heap, tactics which do work (but which debt tho is still a serious issue), versus continuing to pledge allegiance to globalization which has already failed us in the last few months.

If only the world were so simple. Why is it the Northeast after losing the bulk of their manufacturing centers to the midwest, west and south is still the wealthiest region of the country?
Sure I've been called a xenophobe, but the truth is Im not. I honestly feel that America is the best country and all other countries aren't as good. That used to be called patriotism.
