Guys, I'm having some serious problems here. I've installed it correctly (90% sure) but I don't know how to "create the correct shortcut" (quoted from Roman-Man's thread).
I've tried using the standard RTW shortcut that leads to the directory where I installed RS2 but it's not working. I get vanilla background and when I try to launch an "Imperial Campaign" it says "Please select an item from the list". I can set up a custom battle (the new factions are all there, although there are barely any unit cards - most are vanilla peasants) but when I click the arrow to launch it, I get kicked back to the faction selection screen.
Please help...

Any help/ideas guys - I am eager to start testing Carthage![]()
Sounds like you have some installation problems.
The exe you should use is the one that is in your modded rtw folder.

Alright - I'm reinstalling everything. I should use the standard RTW.exe found in the Rome-Total War folder, then? Do I have to change the target/add anything to it (other than -show_err). I'm using Vista BTW if that affects anything...

only -show_err and -ne
-nm is also a good one.
You should use the rtw.exe that is in the same rome total war folder as the one you install RS 2 Beta 7.9 in![]()

Ok, I've reinstalled RS2 7.0 and at least now, when I load the game (using the .exe you said), I get a loading screen with mountains and RS 7.0 (like I've heard others talking about). However, past that point the menu design, background images are all vanilla and I can't start custom battles or the imperial campaign. Same errors as before. Any idea why this is?
Thanks for your time!
EDIT: Here's the error I'm getting: "Script error in: data/world/maps/campaign/imperial_campaign/descr_strat.txt at line 29, column 1: Expected Start date of campaign or battle"
BTW this is after I've installed the Rev3 but on the opening screen (mountain one) it still says "Roma Surrectum 7.0). Is this right?

Thanks then anyway! I'll Pm him...
First of all, you should never install anything into the original RTW folder unless you have very little disk space and HAVE to. You can save HOURS of fiddling around by NOT doing that.
Secondly, creating a shortcut to the right directory where you have installed RS2 Beta is simple:
Go into the folder where you installed it. Find 'RomeTW.exe'.
Right click and choose 'create shortcut'. Immediately a shortcut is created in the same directory.
Drag that to your destop....simple.
Open that shortcut..right click\properties.
YOU MUST have: -show_err -nm in that shortcut after the exe. I don't care about -ne or anything else. In order to see the things you are supposed to see as a Beta tester, you must have those two.
IF you see that the whole line is in parenthesis, such as:
"C:\I made a directory with spaces in it\RomeTW.exe"
put -show_err -nm AFTER the last parenthesis.
If, after all this, your game still doesn't work, then you didn't follow directions and installed everything or 'something' in the wrong place.

As DVK901 has posted - keeping a vanilla (clean unmodded) version of RTW on your PC is almost a must - the only exception is lack of space. (If space is a probem you can always burn the folder onto a CD-ROM or DVD-ROM so you can always simply copy it back).
Just take this copy of RTW and place it in a new folder and use that as a mod base. Apply the mod to the game folder (where the exes live) and not the 'data' folder (a sub folder to the game folder).
For those with RTW BI make sure the '-mod:' switch is in place if you are going to use the RTW BI exe.

Thanks for the replies guys.
I already had a copy of the vanilla RTW. It has BI installed in that so I thought that patched RTW up to 1.5? Anyway, I'll install 1.5 onto that folder and try it again...
Finally got it to work (I'd forgot to apply the 1.5 patch before hand)! It's been the strangest installation I've ever done: After installing the 1.5 patch and RS2 7.10, the battles worked but I could still see the vanilla background for the menu (that wier red moving shadows thingy), so I quit out, started it up again and it had changed to RS backgrounds - I din't change a thing. Anyway, at least it's all working now.
Thanks guys...
