For me the most irritating unit to fight is the Muslim bodyguards and Hashashims. Those two are total monsters where the latter destroyed 2 templar sergeants at the same time.

Bodyguards in overall are irritating, they just whoop any heavycavalry units ass. Itīs so easy to loose all your cavalry while chasing the enemy general.
The most annoying unit to me is any unit that is fighting for a 10 star general: They just wonīt rout. Enemy spearmilitia can hold the wall till almost last soldier, delaying my attack. Looks heroic, but is annoying.
Remember the dead.
Protect the living.
Horse archers for me they are so bloody anoying you chase them with your cav but they are like ferrari's u just cannot reach them and end up chasing them half way across the map
That's why am I working on submod that makes bodyguard a little smaller and gives them only 1 HP but a bit better attack and defense stats.
Some of the most annoying enemies:
-Sword and Buckler Men: they are extremely tough even if they should be light infantry
-Bodyguards: you know why
-Missile Cavalry; especially muslim and gunpowder ones
-Lithuanian troops that throw javelins
-Lithuanian light cavalry is hard too
Horse archers. No question there
Hate them for always outrunning my cav.
Had a good time hunting them with Scottish Border horsies though![]()
Like stated before it has to be Arab Cavalry - They are insane, I committed my Western General's Bodyguard to killing them, thinking they would be a doddle, and so left him to it as no annoying reinforcements to help them seemed close. Next thing I know, I notice my General's Bodyguard card flashing bright red, constantly going down in numbers, and my General was the only one to escape, by some manual twisting and turning eventually into and beyond my front-line of infantry. What's even more silly though was the fact they had about 32 out 40 left?
what i did was make them normal unit size but remove the 2 hitpoints (only one now), i thought it was fairer
i don't know about SS but on broken crescent the Rajput generals bodyguard are elephants, and they are theing worst, i once clearly beat one army loosing only like 100 or so men, but i couldn't kill the body guard, and despite swarming EVERYTHING on him, i lost all of the rest of my army! 1500 or so !, to ONE unit!
now i know elephants are powerful but you're telling me that the hundreds of men surrounding each one could't even stab theer
Pfft, not likely. One of the first things I noticed was how the zooming horse archers had been cut down since RTW. Good thing for those facing them, bad thing for those using them.
The most annoying units would have to be...
Middle Eastern Bodyguards and Arab Cavalry
ME bodyguards because they're obscenely powerful - they just mow through everything.
Arab cavalry are worse because they're appearance/description does not match their ability. They're labelled as a light cavalry unit, and certainly look as much, but for they can cut through heavy cavalry like anything!
Middle Eastern heavy calvary. The ones the generals get. They are freakin' tanks.
Horse Archers. The most annoying opponent ever.
I tend to just pulversise the enemy General with arrows and whatnot then engage him with my own, which tends to work most of the time. If it's not quite enough, I just add a couple of spear units into the mix.
Give a man a fire, and he'll be warm for the rest of the day.
Set a man on fire, and he'll be warm for the rest of his life.
Bodyguards 3
Horse archers 2
Bodyguards with bow and arrow anyone? haha
priests of different faiths than your own and merchants. Far harder to get rid of than an enemy general.
Especially the priests are annoying, they should be executed for heresy.
Nah, bodyguard swith bow and arrow won't at least make mashed potatoes out of my spearmen's arms and legs.
druzhina, normally they come in full stacks dismounted druzhina nothing else. No variation at all, they just act as a horde

In the English Kingdoms campaign I remember fighting hordes of Irish cavilermen. The only response was to sit back for 5 minutes and wait till my longbowmen had finished them off, taking lots of casualties in the process. I hated them.
In SS, bodyguards reminds me a bit of the elephants of RTW. But they're only halfway as annoying as 3-4 heavy siege eq. well protected by clustered spearmen and missile, so my cavalry can't get to them.
General's bodyguard AND Horse Archers, only AI bodyguard though because they just run into spears and pikes like they are nothing and kill half the unit from one charge. Then when you do the same with your bodyguard, your bodyguard die like there is no tomorrow and in just a few seconds you have half of your bodyguards left, then Horse Archers just run as it was said before like sports cars and keep butchering your light cavalry that are attacking them while they run away.
I'm playing as the HRE and the scandinavians are proving to be a tough nut to crack, Dismounted Huscarls, Huscarls, Norse swordmen and Norse Archers. Huscarls have ap weapons which works wonders against my knights, I have been able to counter them with Teutonic knights which also have ap weapons.
I play infantry heavy armies and the Norse and the Danes have excellent infantry to counter mine and those archers of theirs are excellent fighters in melee and just won't break when I charge them with cavalry and put up a good fight.
No battleplan ever survives contact with the enemy

errrrrr, ive got to say that the most annoying unit to beat in ss has to be either A. Dvor Cavalry
or B. the Tsar guards
the Dvor Cavalry not only are well armored, but they also have a decent missle attack and furthermore can fight in hand to hand melee...and still pwn
Meanwhile the Tsar guards constantly charge and last time i checked are one of the most powerful cavalry in the game, oh and it always seems that there is not just 1 unit of them, there is always like 4 units of them!
