Can't quite understand why they would do this ??
The money motive seems strange.
I don't know, just always heard that marines got a strong sense of brotherhood and would seem strange to kill another marine and his wife in this sorta way just for cash.
The powers delegated by the proposed Constitution to the federal government are few and defined. Those which are to remain in the State governments are numerous and indefinite. The former will be exercised principally on external objects, as war, peace, negotiation, and foreign commerce; with which last the power of taxation will, for the most part, be connected. The powers reserved to the several States will extend to all the objects which, in the ordinary course of affairs, concern the lives, liberties, and properties of the people, and the internal order, improvement, and prosperity of the State. - James Madison

No doubt in my mind they went after the couple because of the mixed marriage. This crime is as repulsive imo as the hate crime in Jasper, Texas not too many years ago.

Marine sergeant owns 5 bedroom house in S CA...fishy.
What a strange statement. Why on Earth would the Corp screen out ruthless murderers?Pietrzak's mother said she can't understand how Marines could have committed such a crime.
"Don't the Marines screen out people like this?" she said. "Didn't they know they had murderers under their roof?"

It does.
Nevertheless, trained killers are probably more comfy with the idea of murder than most.
A sergeant with a 5 bedroom HOUSE, in Riverside County?Originally Posted by Farnan

That's current price, average value is actually $430k...who knows when the poor dude actually bought it. 5 BR homes run a bit more than 3 BR homes, a more reasonable equivalent to "average home"..

Bought it with a mortgage. Pays the mortgage with his Sergeant's pay + Basic Allowance for Housing (which is an additional $1711 per month). Pay received while in Iraq + Bonuses could probably get the down payment.
A 30 year mortgage at 5.75 % (the defaults in the Mortgage Calculator) puts the payments at 2626.08 per month. Seeing as an E-5 with 6 years of service makes 2405.10 a month plus the 1711 BAH he makes enough he can afford, albeit barely, the house. That is assuming the wife doesn't work.

You will see that an E5 stationed at Camp Pendleton/Riverside is given an allowance of over $1500 a month for housing. Lets say the average mortgage on a $450,000 house is around $2500 a month maybe a little more according to mortgage calculators.

We can assume he had a couple years in service so at his pay grade with cumulative years he was pulling around $2200, before any special allowances, a month plus his wife's pay. They might not have had a whole lot left over after everything but it is within reason that they could afford the house without anything illegal going on.
I agree that it is possible, I just think it's very unlikely. You will not find any $450k homes in urban S CA with 5 BR...my girlfriend's MS advisor paid $350k for a 1950's 2BR, 0.10 acre, ~800ft2 cinderblock home in Reseda (San Fernando Valley, pretty slummy, most of his neighbors kept chickens...) in 2002...just BEFORE the real estate boom. We all told him he was nuts, but it was worth over $500k two years later!
If this guy was in any way financially strapped, maybe there were some shady dealings to compensate?
