In-game, my reputation seems to drop no matter what I try to do in order to stop it. Do not pillage or burn cities, try not to execute enemy troops, not breaking alliances...yet my rep seems to drop. Any suggestions on how to keep it generally stable?

Extremely powerful. I already beat the game, just trying to conquer the world at the moment.

My rep jumps from time to time. Sometimes it is mixed, reliable, untrustworthy...just seems to shift around.

I think your campaign caused a time warp and you have created hippies in the medieval ages. They are protesting for peace and the are causing your rep to go down. KILL THE HERETICS AND BLASPHEMERS!

Yep, that's it then. Unfortunately the AI goes full out when you get too powerful and all other factions unite against you, which is incredibly lame, not to mention inaccurate.

oh yea... Destroying factions doesn't help your standing...

The most important thing is releasing enemy prisoners. My byzantine emperor employs tons of assassins and sacks christian cities, but always releases prisoners and my faction standing is immaculate.

I was a dread lord every faction I played before.I not sack and exterminate catholics because none will kill the money cow but muslims, ortodox, pagans feel my wrath.EXTERMINATE!
Tons of spys, assasins, bribe any trups can afford, destroy churches to erase the papal favor, all dirty things of a machiavelic ruler. Now I am in HRE campaign.I release all prisoners, I occupy citys, never start the war, always agree to get a ceasefire if is posible.Crusader, ally with pope and teutons. In turn 35 I am in war with France, England, Poland, Lituania and for a small period with Venice(they buy their peace with castle of Ancona).Who agress me get invariable in 3 turns a wonderful bless from my dear god player:You are excomunicated!
Is great to be chilvarious, ppl love you, all trust your kingdom and you can get gold chevrons without killing the peasents.Best thing is my armys have a clear moral increase.

Actually something else I think is a big factor - money. Territorially speaking, my Roman empire isn't that big; Durazzo to the west, Caesarea to the East, and just taken Antioch. That's it but everyone hates me. Problem is, my economy might as well show as 'infinite'. I've never been this rich in any Total War game ever. I could build the most expensive unit in every settlement I own (full slots) and the same with buildings. The hit to my economy? Non-existant!

You're probably doing something that is making your relations with other nations lower. Expanding too quickly perhaps? Encroaching on your neighbors land? I don't know, your doing something to piss'em off.

Something that never gets mentioned, but I've recently experimented with is help out your allies rather than giving them gifts. You get the double-dip if you declare war on their enemies, not only do you become more reliable in reputation terms, but you also get to strengthen your alliance.

My reputation went from mixed to reliable to very reliable in the course of 5-15 turns...In campaign with Scotland I destroyed England, I had executed a few english troops prior to this. Right when I couldnt afford to piss off the pope I figured I'd voyage down to Timbuktu, instead the idiodic Danish decided to blockade my port for a turn or two and felt my wrath within 2 turns. Took their capital, they came looking for a ceasefire, I countered with vassalage and they asked for some money to make it work. They were at war with the Russians, so I decided "what the hay, they're pagans." Sailed my troops onward to Novogrod blockaded two ports and exterminated the populace of Novogrod (half-accident, I thought my King would get the dread since he was the commander, but it was the very noble (adopted) prince who was also joining him who would turn out to be the governor due to his extra chivalry, whooops, lesson learned.) Nevertheless, next turn my reputation turns to "reliable". So, the Russians are looking for peace but also settle for vassalage. Now, HRE attacks my ally the French, once they get excommunicated I decide to help my boys out and all of a sudden I occupy a city or two and I'm very reliable. I've sacked 2-3 HRE castles/fotresses/citadels with my King (he started with 4 skulls and I cant afford lose them and can use the florins to boot.)

Help out your allies, following your oath to protect your friends is what builds reputation even when exterminating other faiths, executing the occasional army and even sacking catholic regions. Oh, I've also had both successful and failed assassination attempts in this campaign, no hit to my rep. Most population, territories, and military strength (territories and military I was hovering 2-3 for about 10 turns until 2 turns ago).

I did this in hopes that the Danish wouldn't backstab since we started our vassalage with poor relations and maybe an ally down the line would help me out, I haven't had a chance to test that yet, but I did manage to forcibly pull the Danish (my vassal) into a war with HRE since I engaged an enemy ship that they were connected to, that was pretty cool. I'll update when I find out more.

Surely your reputation is not nice, if you have conquered the world... anyway, if you have already beat it, i guess it doesn't make a difference if your rep is good or bad.
