i was just thinking that it would be great to see the circular mob formations, like the ones seen in rtw, for peasants, fanatics and other untrained units
could something like this be implemented in DoTS?

I remember some mod that did that with horse archers, for M2TW

The Duke of Dunwich and surrounding fiefdom
For any who are interested by my FF on occurrences in Rhun and beyond; I have begun a new project (not because the old one is finished, just opening more room for ideas) about one of the minor characters, Rankal. It is in the Third Age AAR index and here is the link http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=376994
it doesn't have to be a be a perfect circle, i just used this example cause it shows a unit like peasants doesn't have the discipline or training to form neat little square formations, whenever you see a group of rioters in the news they don't from up into tight formations its a chaotic unorganized mob

As well, Rusichi: Total War has it, for their bandit units. It's actually really handy: I use it to break up cavalry charges, before countercharging with spearmen.

Well, yes peasants and such were not trained soldiers but just literally moved with the crowd- so a loose formation would be useful- also we have certain units like the heavy two-handed swordsmen which will need a small, loose and open formation. Whether we can do that is too early to say yet since we are not focussing on those kinds of aspects right now- we are focussing on the map and campaign first-
