Default What's the deal with the descr_campaign_db file?

Okay, so I opened up unpacker to edit a file- namely, the file that controls when Princesses come of age, when they can no longer marry, and when generals die out. I want my generals to die out at about age 55, because to me that seems more reasonable and realistic- considering how short the lives of medieval men really were. I don't like them being around for so long. I also wanted to edit the age in which my princesses come about- I wanted it to be 14 instead of 16- in keeping with medieval marriage tradition. Considering it takes some time to build up their charm rating, and considering that noble women were usually married off at about twelve or so (poor girls!). However, I opened up the descr_campaign_db file and changed the ages, but it seems to not have taken. I already was playing a hotseat game with Spain and HRE- but there was no difference whatsover. So my question is, how exactly does one do it? Or do I have to play a new campaign for the changes to occur? Any suggestions?

I'm wondering if I editing the wrong thing too. Help is greatly appreciated.

you have to restart a new campaign for changes to take place.

Well, I started a new one and they didn't take place. Any suggestions? What are the basics of editing this file, and what am I doing wrong? I've looked for information on the basics, but I can't seem to find any.

you have to "balance" max age and max age before death.

editing this file works basically fine

Oh okay. Also, someone said from another board said, "Make sure you use the io file first command for your changes to take."

What does he mean? Can someone please explain this? I search for a basic tutorial on the subject, but nothing came up. I wish there was just some basics about this to help newbie modders like me.
