Anyone else think he is perfect for that slot?
From what I've seen of him he actually doesn't seem like a bad guy and knows what he believes.

I do think their prospects going forward are very solid."

Yes, this is exactly what we need. I've met him several times and he's always been a good guy.
Sure I've been called a xenophobe, but the truth is Im not. I honestly feel that America is the best country and all other countries aren't as good. That used to be called patriotism.
Who is pushing this?
I think the man is a good tactician and was the perfect man to lead the US House Republicans in there challange for control. He did not prove to be effective as the speaker though. I suspect bomb throwing skills to challange leadership are not needed in the RNC chair either. This is primarily a fundraising position -- maybe Mit Romney would be a better choice for this.
I'd suspect that Newt wouldn't take the position if he didn't have a larger voice as far as stratgy and the party goes.I think the man is a good tactician and was the perfect man to lead the US House Republicans in there challange for control. Newt would be great in the position. He is smart, knows his politics and is practical, its only when he is in a position of power that he falls apart but getting GOP back on track, a better more coherent message and a more true conservative one he would be perfect for. Like JP Ive met him several times when I was younger and he is a really good guy expect like I said when he is has real power
Though it looks like Michael Steele will get the spot instead. Would be an interesting choice and I like Steele but I think Newt is better suited for the position but there is one factor that will play to Steele's advantage, he is black. Sadly he was a victim of a horribly insulting and racist campaign against him in Maryland that he lost the governorship.

I assume that Newt is working on another book. Maybe also some speaking and fundraising. I just doubt that he is best for the job, but also whether it is best for Newt.

The mans a hypocrite. He was calling for Clinton's impeachment and was cheating on his wife at the same time. I can't trust people like that.

Indeed. Anyone who claims to defend "family values" while doing that doesn't deserve any honest vote. At least Bill didn't...The mans a hypocrite. He was calling for Clinton's impeachment and was cheating on his wife at the same time. I can't trust people like that.
"Romans not only easily conquered those who fought by cutting, but mocked them too. For the cut, even delivered with force, frequently does not kill, when the vital parts are protected by equipment and bone. On the contrary, a point brought to bear is fatal at two inches; for it is necessary that whatever vital parts it penetrates, it is immersed. Next, when a cut is delivered, the right arm and flank are exposed. However, the point is delivered with the cover of the body and wounds the enemy before he sees it."

LOL you remind me of this:Except the impeachment was about Bill lying not about his cheating....why do people who bring it up always seem to forget that. Impeachment attempt was stupid and unjustified but lets not attempt to rewrite *why* it was attempted.
But Gingrich seeks to look like a defender of moral values in the high ground, all that while cheating his own wife. No doubt that many voted against the Dems in 2000 based on the Clinton extramarital affair per se and not the fact that the only true scandal was he denying it under oath.

Newt would be very good for the rnc head with increased influence but after looking into it Steele seems good too and fresh blood is unquestionably needed.

hey, if this guy can make chairman of DNC, y not Newt for RNC?
BTW it doesn't matter wat questions they ask u, if ur under oath ur under oath. unless ur in a situation where council can object, u damn well better tell the truth. Martha Stewart could have learned a thing or two from Slick Willy. could have saved her from going to the pen.

Newt has come a long way since the Clinton debacle. Today he seems one of the few with some sense in the Republican ranks.

from the NYTimes:
Said better than I could -- disappointed that Mit Romney was not mentioned. He must have taken himself out of the running. Or perhaps being a candidate disqualifies?? But Dean was the choice for the Dems.Commentary’s Jennifer Rubin doesn’t think any living contender has it all:
It is not clear what the greatest need for the party is. If the RNC needs a thousand ideas, half of them fabulous and half really not, there is no better person than Newt Gingrich. If the need is to symbolize a turning of the page and a willingness to pursue new constituencies then someone like Michael Steele seems ideally suited. And if the issue is the nuts and bolts of re-organizing and re-building a party one of the more successful state chairs –Katon Dawson (SC) or Jim Greer (FL) would seem to be the best choice. In any case, this isn’t much of a race, since the new chairman will be chosen by a grand total of 168 Republican committeemen and women, all of whom will be courted with promises of specific goodies.
