    Default This year's florida?

The senate race between Coleman and Franken is very close with a Coleman lead of a few hundred votes, do you think Franken will gain those back on the recount?

I do think their prospects going forward are very solid."

I love how Franken's votes keep going up and Colemans are virtually stagnant. If these people weren't so blatantly stupid they would vary the numbers from candidate to candidate a bit more to not make it so obvious.
Sure I've been called a xenophobe, but the truth is Im not. I honestly feel that America is the best country and all other countries aren't as good. That used to be called patriotism.

They are all in 3 heavily democratic districts.

I have complete faith in the process in Minnesota. I have family that are active Democrats --- well actually Farmer-Labor Party. They do not want Franken to win unless it is legit. Actually, there are many Democrats who do not care if the votes are counted correctly -- if Franken looses. He is a danger to the party of Humphrey and Mondale. The media is making too much of this. Let the process continue and then judge.

I don't much care for him. I actually went for 3rd party in the Senate race.

I think we should go with the process but a 500 vote difference based on 'missed votes' in a 750 vote contest has a good chance of being tampering.

The "accidents" and missed votes are going 90-10 to franken and coleman in the counties he lost was still above the 30% threshold. Statistically it's not likely.

I have pretty good faith in our election process, it works when you are in the +5,000 vote margins. We're very accurate, but when it comes down to these hundred to two hundred vote margins, then it get's a bit nebulous and it's easy enough to produce a couple hundred votes either way.

Reading through his biography...Norm Coleman is the biggest sell out in history. Seriously, there is defection...then there is DEFECTION.

Sorry -- how does this relate to counting the vote??

Also, in danger of taking this completely off the rails -- what are you hinting at? Start a new thread or pm me if this should not be here.

@JP -- very correct -- small margins are always contested vigerously and sometimes with less than honorable methods. This one is close but also in the lime light. Created votes will not go undetected.

Norm Coleman is a candidate right? So I thought it was OK to call into question his character and past conduct. In other words whether or not it matters whether the democrats unseat him, or whether or not he should.

Well Id say it matters if there is some funny stuff going on with the voters regardless of whether Norm is a babbling idiot who drools...you know something about the legitimacy of elections and the process by which we elect our leaders. You know the whole thing Democratic party whined and cried about in Florida. So whether Norm is in your view a good pick for senator is irrelevant to this topic.

To my knowledge it is legal to ask for a recount if the margin is below a certain number? So since I personally do not like Norm Coleman [don't know much about Al Franken though] I think the Dems should go for a recount which by the looks of things they would almost certainly win.

Surely in a real democracy all votes should be counted down to the last one, as every man's vote counts etc.? So why not recount? Why not make absolutely sure who the winner is?

This is is what happened in Florida 2000 both sides basically suspended democracy and went for the legal option which would have either counted Gore enough votes to win, or preserved Bush enough votes to win, but neither actually wanted to do a total and fair recount to truly safeguard democracy and peoples vote.

I may be wrong, but didn't they find a few extra franken votes in the trunk of someone's car?

it'll be tough to track down alot of those voters when most have been in the cemetery for a while.

its not really a question of whether or not the Dems could, would or should beat if, its that if they do beat him, did they do it leagally.

Democrats want everyone out voting, death is no excuse!

yeah, he's exactly who we need in the Senate to make things better. this guy's so out there even alot of Democrats think he's nothing but a sleaze. this is a guy who 4 years ago resorted to pee jokes about the President on national television. have u seen his posters he's used putting Obama's name on there with his? the best Obama and all Democrats can do is pretend like they dont even know the guy if they want to keep building up respect and credibility.
