Really up against it here! Getting attacked from four directions; Franks in the north, Vandals in the south, and the Goths in the east and west!
My first campaign with the Assimilation Patch. As the DoS, I'm trying to take back Italy from the Vandals and restore the Roman Empire in the West.
Oops! I'm playing as the pro-Roman Roman Britones (white), not the DoS. I play the DoS so much Just habit to put them down...Anyway, I wouldn't be doing well well as the DoS. They are only on the map now becasue of my good graces and becasue they are fellow Romans and they are a buffer state.
COOL!!!I'm going to do a BRG ancillary for Roman Britones, Romano British, and DoS if they capture Ravanna and Rome with certain units to recruit from there![]()
Now I have 4 such legions in the northern border provinces, on the defensive, 1 in North Africa fighting Vandals and 2 in development in Italy which should push my finances quite far.
Should I go after the Visigoths with the two new legions or expand to the 2 rebel provinces in the north and east? Either could potentially be a disaster at this point.
I don't see the Franks, where are they? You've lost Augusta Vindelicorum, try to regain it,watch out in the east because the Salona's army is strong and big, Salona is rich but not so far you'll have the ERE armies near the city...
Holy hell Dodge, got enough money? I take it you're roleplaying the game or limiting your recruiting, because with that much cash you could take over the entire map 4 times over!
Unit upkeep is insane! And for the other nations, it is much smaller (1800 for some Roman units, 3000 for Generals and 100-400 for Barbarian factions troops) and as you can see my income from trade is huge and taxes very small, and that trade is from the huge cities and everywhere else is quite poor.
I can support maybe 10 field armies with the money I have, while the Barbarian factions can support alot more stacks for a fraction of the cost, which is why I am on the defensive.
I tried to make it so expansion comes at a heavy price. It may seem a bit deceiving when after expanding a bit things such as rebellions and finances become difficult to manage. Although that is quite a coinage your carrying around Dodge lol . what level of difficulty are you playing?

Here's what I plan to do, when i get everything fixed. I'll use flavius to secure pannonia, illyria, and the danube borders. Then Ill move him into gaul to secure lower gaul, move up through it, and crush all the barbarian factions with in western imperial borders. then Ill move and secure spain, and sail across the gibralter to africa, where ill secure the three mauretanias and the tripolitanian provinces/africa proconsularis. Then Ill move into egypt and secure the eastern frontier, sail across the helespont to greece, and Aetius will lead the charge against Constantinople.
