    Default How to make siege towers recrutable ?

    Hey all,

    I thought if I change the "engine" line in export_desc_units.txt to "siege tower", it would work but I was wrong
    There are some other changes needed to be done. Can anyone please explain briefly how I can get towers on battlefields..?

    You mean as recruitable units? I don't think you can get them to work like that, even if you swap around (say) ram models/animations with them.

    Don't know if makes any sense to have them in a field battle, but I wouldn't exclude it from the realm of possible. After all, scorpions, ballistae, and onagers are engines, too, and they can be recruited.

    I try to make them playable since I am planning making a kind of "war wagon".

    I thought so, however it wont work. I changed the unit entry as shown here but I only crew no towers and I couldnt find any specific information in descr_engines.txt files.

    Change the class of siege-tower to "onager" in descr_engines.txt (and remove the "variant" line I think). It will CTD when the tower tries to attack from range, but it's a first step.

    Thanks your were right . I can now see towers on battlefileds however as you guessed if they try to attack game CTDs. I fix that by making it a non_combatant unit and removing secondardy weapon. Now it is just as a siege weapon, soldiers can pick it up or abandon it. Thank you very much

    What happens if you change the class to tower, to match the class in descr_engines.txt?

    Then, in battlefield I only see crew no tower at all.

    Hmm weird. Did you check my descr_engines.txt? The tower type works fine here. I guess I added required lines to solve the attack CTD...

    BTW you could make the tower into movable wall like this?

    I checked your file and cannot find any difference with original file, maybe I missed it.

    For your question, I have no software neither knowledge about 3D so I cannot do anything like in this picture. However, Troy total war has some sort of wooden barrier that is used in sieges to protect archers from arrows of towers and defenders arrows. I will try to make this wooden barrier as a kind of defensive weapon on battlefields. Just for fun

    I guess from your mini mod work you have plenty information about modeling so you can make such walls just by cutting the towers side parts and leaving the front also you may need to shorter them a little bit, then maybe you add them to your mini mod ?
