Batman being sued by um Batman

“The royalty of the name ‘Batman’ belongs to us … There is only one Batman in the world. The American producers used the name of our city without informing us,” Kalkan told to the Doğan news agency. Batman is a centuries old city, taking root in the Neolithic age but becoming significant when oil was found in the region at the end of 1940s. Almost a decade before that, Batman was created as a comic hero. Kalkan is going to sue Christopher Nolan, the director of the latest Batman movie “The Dark Night,” not DC Comics, the creator of the superhero."


Id post this in the mudpit but since it falls into Arts and is hilarious figured better sued here Ranks up there with island of Lesbo suing over the name Lesbian.

There was a professor with the last name "Batman" at my university in the 80's.

He sold drugs to his students, and when he got caught the headline in the newspaper, with huge bold font, was "BATMAN ARRESTED!"

They might have a case...except for the fact that the comic charecter was created almost 20 yrs before anyone in the west ever knew of the cities existence....

I say we dont give them money... but we will give them a signed copy of Burt Wards costume (Burt Ward = Robin from the original tv show)...and free tickets to new batman movie for everyone in the city...

Anyone know where we can find a Turkish version of The Dark Knight?/

Internet probably since we can find anything there these days (they might bring it out there though, unless it has the nudity of course), this sounds so utterly without any chance of succes. Do you think Nolan looked over maps of the Middle-East to search for a cool name for his new comic? Then found Batman, and decided on that? I don't think so.

Nolan has nothing to do with the name batman, he just made the latest movies.
DC comics created Batman, they are not being sued which adds even more stupidity to the mix.

I remember when I first lay my eyes on Turkey on the map in the classroom, and saw BATMAN.
Gave me a good laugh back then.

Damn, my neighbour has the same name I do. I'll sue him, so that I can get his house, since his house is signed under my first name!

Batman was created by in 1939 and not by Nolan but Bob Kane At the time this city was evidently a tiny village so really I dont see much a case here.

what a deadbeat, because when 'Batman' needed a name, Bob Kane and Bill Finger looked at a map of turkey and saw the city of batman, and thought to themselves "we will steal that name and give it to our superhero"!

Yeah couple islanders filed a lawsuit against the homosexual community there because they claim the name is soiled and insults the identity of the residents. This is priceless from one of the people who were behind the suit:

I actually think that the Lesbians have a good case. The reason why homosexual females are called lesbians is because of the Lesbian writer Sappho, who may not even have been a lesbian, she just wrote some homoerotic stuff.

The entire thing is stupid. They won't get any money. They don't have a basis to claim anything. Except some free advertising for their town.

Turks are always asking that has already been taken!
