    Default Palin the Senator

Sarah Palin seems to want to be a front-runner for the Republican party come 2012 and a great opportunity has presented itself. Ted Stevens, the Senator from Alaska is under charges of corruption and will likely have to resign. This opens up a gap for a national position and is exactly the kind of one Sarah Palin needs. The question is, do you believe she will put herself in the race for the Senate in Alaska?

Why would she want to demote herself? Govenors make better presidents than senators . Its called executive experience.

...so she could get herself some Washington exposure. Her "executive experience" argument is not one worth a lick of salt. She needs to get herself to DC and lay a foundation among the real Republicans - the ones who are rich, intelligent, and powerful. She's got no problems pandering to the vast illerate/ignorant right-wing base - but she sorely lacks the support of "true" Republicans.

OMG no. Thats what we dont need. What happened to change we can believe in?

Because obviously you people dont think executive experience is needed. Obama has none. He has 143 days as a Senator lol.

You're assuming she would be corrupted by Washington? Face it, this woman doesn't have a chance as long she stays in Alaska. There's a heck of a lot more potential waiting for her in DC, than there is in Juneau. If's she's as smart as she claims to be, she'll be on the first boat, train or plane to the capital.

The real Republicans will want to keep her bottled up in Alaska.

It's obviously not a requirement. Apparently neither are basic understandings of some of the most simple geo-political concepts and issues, but that didn't stop McCain from picking Palin. Her "executive experience" had absolutely nothing to do with why she was selected.

How do you really feel about Palin?

I have only ever seen you post something in regards to her when you are criticising Obama.

i.e. - she has more exec exp than Obama. But what does this reveal about how you truly feel about the woman as a potential POTUS?

Personally, I like to think that your regard for her is merely one very very very low rung above your opinion of Obama. I am hoping you see her as Idiot +1, rather than someone who you truly belive could be POTUS.

There are term limits though, if we are looking down the road. She has served two years. If she wins re-election in two (almost assured), she will have four left, and then she has to do something else for awhile.

Obviously this thread is geared towards her leaving very soon, with Stevens leaving the Senate. But, as we all know, Stevens is winning his re-election campaign right now. Honestly, since he choose to run he will probably hang on to the seat for his full term. Which means he would be up for re-election in six years. Palin would be out of the governor job in how many years? 6. Works out nicely for her if she wants to be a career Alaskan politician. Wrestle the spot from Stevens in the primary, and she could probably serve as long as she wanted considering her popularity.

I agree though, if we are talking about 2012 run for Palin, leaving the Governorship would be a huge mistake.

Hopefully not. Even if she may eventually have the stuff to be a good one, I don't want her to. After her absolute failing at being a running mate for president, she doesn't deserve anything at all.

If she wasn't the most popular and successful non-corrupt politician in the history of Alaska you might have a chance with that. As it is, she will be around for a very long time. After she is done being governor a Senate seat is easily within her reach. And once Alaskans elect a Senator... they keep electing that Senator.

Exactly the point. McCain doomed himself the minute he picked "Sarah barracuda"

If Palin is the Republican frontrunner for 2012, Obama, if he runs for a second term, (which I believe he will) is almost guaranteed a victory. It is my hope that she will simply fade away into the bleak wilderness that is Alaska and never come back.

I doubt she will attempt to break into national politics again as soon as 2012. It would be a disastrous effort. Her political adviser would hold her back, i would imagine.
Also, I doubt she wouldn't even take the Republican nomination. Huckabee, who will almost assuredly run again, would steal a lot of her "base." She doesn't have the appeal to the free market business oriented Republicans, nor the moderate center-right Republicans, that one needs to secure the Republican nomination.
(The religious right/social values portion of the Republican base gets fought over too much for someone to count on it. Look at this years primaries. Romney, Huckabee, even Thompson, all counted on these voters to back them. None could hold the entire group, though Huckabee attracted the great support. McCain walked in with minor support from this group, pulled in some of the other two portions of the Republican base and easily took the nomination.)

Unless Obama is just so successful that the Republican party wants to throw someone to the slaughter, and decides to kill Palin's national aspirations with a doomed candidacy, and runs her against an incredibly strong Obama to watch her get crushed, and then have her just stay in Alaskan politics, probably as a Senator, for the rest of her career.
(Once one looses a Presidential bid after getting the ticket, one tends not to run again.)

Taking over Ted Stevens seat is a great idea for Palin. She already has the executive experience, and with some senatorial seasoning she'll be a formidable opponent, maybe not in four but in eight years time.

    Nevar Again.

Palin is the exact oposite of what the Republican party should become over the next decade.
