Default AI Experience: Guerilla Warfare and Suicidal Inclination

Ave and hail to the creators of RS Mod!

    1- question on campaign AI:

I would enquire, whether it is a normal behaviour for AI armies (Syracouse, Free People) to let their settlements rather undefended and prefer hiding in the forests?

    To specify the case:

It happened at a very early time of a Roman campaign (10-15 settlements owned) when 2-3 strong AI armies (Free People) prepared ambushes in the forests, instead of defending their town with sufficient forces.
My lone army was totally outnumbered, and in spite of confrontation, the Free People chose to leave their town almost deserted, and hide in the mountain forests.

    Syracouse did something similar.

I wonder if these armies were so tricky because of their "national characteristics" or because having had no qualified leader, or what is the purpose of this guerilla warfare.

Perhaps Garrison Mod would come in handy for situations like this?

2 - question on Tactical AI:

In battles, I see many times AI units breaking ranks, breaking formations and charging on my motorized (horse) units. Not only spearmen, but even archers feel the necessity to rush for some embrace.

Maybe this armies had no good leaders? Or what could cause this seemingly less effective tacitcs?

Anyone experienced the same? Or are these strange only for me?
    Thanx, ave.

(having installed RS 1.5a+b and no other mods)

What exe are you playing with?

RTW BI is better than RTW
RTW Alex is better than RTW BI.

In the games that I play the AI does not sit idle while I siege thier settlements. That isn't to say that the AI is intelligent - it's still possible (for instance) to tie down most of the Roman armies in the North of Italy and make a naval invasion to the South.

Not for RS. The AI for RTW BI is better than RTW and the AI for RTW Alex is better than RTW BI.

You should be able to pick up a copy of RTW BI quite cheaply now-a-days. It may be in the bargain bins at some shops. Even new they are failry cheap.

It would be worth getting RTW BI for the AI but I'm not sure about just getting Alex for the AI.

I seem to recall that with RTW BI some units may get the ability to swim across rivers on the battle map. I think when Alex is installed this stop happening.

    I play with RTW Alex

Strange. In my Germania campaign, the Carthaginians and silly greeks keep attacking my siege force at Carthage and Corinth respectively. Every turn I get a full stack trying to break my siege on their city and it's getting rather irritating (using RTW exe).

Could be just an eccentric AI in your case, I dunno

you will find that the ai can spawn full stacks quite quickly, thats why i always send several armies together one seige force and a couple of auxillary forces to screen them. this is one of the features that make this mod so good. tou cant just steamroll over the enemys.

I have been begining to wonder how the AI can mass-produce full stacks so quickly myself.

If I am playing 1-turn recruitment. I can only assume it applies to the AI as well.

i think so, as i have noticed when you take a settlement it usually has very few inhabitants left. but i only play on 0 turn.
