    Default Prop 8 will pass????

Looks like prop 8 in California is going to pass what does this mean for California and even the rest of the country

Edit: Prop 8 was the Ban on same-sex marriage

it means that even in California people STILL dont want gay marriage.

I'm deeply saddened that California is letting this pass. It just goes to show we can't take all the big steps forward all at once.

A lot of ban gay marriage propositions have gone up across the states and most of them are passing. One even passed in I believe a Midwestern state, banning gay adoption and also adoption for all single parents.

It also means they'll have a total contradiction in their state constitution which means s***tons of fun.

A link to the Californian state constitution.

The fun item is Article I Section 7 Item B:

    (b) A citizen or class of citizens may not be granted privileges
or immunities not granted on the same terms to all citizens.
Privileges or immunities granted by the Legislature may be altered or
    revoked.

I am very disappointed in Californians, actually just the middle of the state. Most of the coast voted against it, including the county I live in.
Too bad people have to get into other peoples business with the "bible thumping/not ready to let others have the same rights as me attitude."

Hey how about a ballot measure to ban inter racial marriages?! Let's really stick it to 'em!

As a resident of California, i really didn't seriously think prop 8 would get anywhere near to passing. i'm kinda shocked and ashamed of my state right now. this is not right.

I voted No on 8. I'm not religious, so I'm not parading around about the "sanctity of marriage." I have several homosexual coworkers and I don't see how their marriage could possibly interfere with my life, liberty, and happiness. However, I certainly wouldn't mind that gay married couple get taxed like everyone else. It will help pay, even a little, for the other ridiculous props that will no doubt pass...

<edit>On the other hand, it wasn't an easy decision. I pondered voting yes simply because allowing homosexual marriage sets a dangerous precedent. Polygamy for example, a man or woman with mutliple spouses doesn't effect me much does it? Yet, why not add that to the ballot next year? The idea isn't one I can fathom at the moment, but I'm very interested in your responses.

Just to recap, I voted No on 8.

Sad moment in American history. On a positive note, similar attempts have failed, such as ballot question one in CT which was a Constitutional Convention that would be used to ban abortion and gay marriage. Also "definition of life" and abortion questions were defeated across the country.

The state court acted illegally. The people voted it in 7 years ago iirc.

I do think their prospects going forward are very solid."

Can't find anything about the proposition/measure for traffic relief. I voted no on almost everything that costs CA state any more money. Decided yes on the traffic relief one, I'm sick and tired of non-synchronized lights and stop-go traffic. Probably not going to magically relieve this, but at least get the street lights networked. Otherwise, disappointed to see this state voted Yes on draining our coffers/pockets, but no on alternate/renewable energy. Looks like we're getting a high speed train.. yipee!
