What effect if any does the past US election have on other countries?
Specifically I'm talking about the shift from a George Bush (Republican) administration to a Barack Obama (Democrat) one.
In other words a seemingly 180* shift on the spectrum.
A peaceful shift.
I know every US election is peaceful by comparison to some countries. This election, however, included electing a minority.
Does anyone think that the nature of and the historical firsts involved in this election may serve as an example for other countries?
I know the US in and of itself is supposed to do that but I think a palpable level of cynicism had prevented other nations from not thinking US politics were fixed.
Or is this too idealistic?
Obama has been quoted, including others, as saying, "Power cedes nothing without a fight."
I would think an election like this would show a dictator/warlord/bad guy an alternative path to ceding power. Which may only be temporary.
Instead of holding onto power at all costs allow elections, lose if you have to, make rounds being interviewed and enjoy a break or be dragged out of a posh palace at the end of a rope to the waiting murderous arms of thousands of rebels who want your blood and head - in no particular order.
