    Default The Obama Cabinet

Now its time for Obama to make the most important choice of his presidency, his cabinet. In my opinion it should be a unity cabinet, due to his campaign idea, and include at least one Republican in the Big Five (Attorney General, Secretary of State, Secretary of Defense, National Security Adviser and Secretary of Homeland Security).

What I want and think is possible:

    Big Five:

Defense - Colin Powell - Republican, supported Obama, has vast military experience and is trusted and loved in the military. Can help him assuage fears of cuts and mistreatment.

State - Ryan Crocker - Not sure of party, current Ambassador to Iraq, former ambassador to: Kuwait, Lebanon, Syria, Pakistan (hmm... all 5 seem important places right now). Served under the first Bush, Clinton and the current Bush so would serve under Obama. Warned of what would happen in Iraq.

National Security Adviser - Fareed Zakaria - One of the most knowledgeable, intelligent people in foreign policy. He would be a great asset to the administration and is a known moderate.

Attorney General - Though I fear it will be Edwards, I'm hoping Lieberman. This will bring someone from the McCain campaign into the fold and assuage conflict. Realistic though as the Dems want him out of the Senate.

    Homeland Security - Stumped here...

    Other:

Commerce - Warren Buffet - He's one of the richest man in the world, maybe he can fix any economic troubles.

Edwards as in John Edwards!? I doubt he's willing to show himself on camera, let alone serve a high profile cabinet position. XD

John Edwards has run twice so far, and has some power in the party...

Edwards as AG is never going to happen considering the scandal around him and Leiberman? No way, Democrats would scream bloody murder. I seen rumors of Hagel and Luger being pegged for posts (SOS, SOD undoubtly) and honestly I dont want see Powell in any cabinet spot. Dont want to rehash old thread but Powell in my view should be finished in public life due to his failures. Buffet would never take a position, the guy is just too big...its like resurrecting Elvis and asking him to open for Britney Spears.

Lieberman? Seriously? I will be surprised if his name gets mentioned at all in any conversations about Obama's cabinet. Unless of course it goes like this: "Lieberman will not be considered for Obama's cabinet."

Except, putting him in Obama's cabinet gets him out of the Senate, and opens up a seat for a Dem...

I'm guessing William Ayers for Secretary of State, Jeremiah Wright for Secretary of the Interior, Tony Rezko for Secretary of the Treasury, Rashid Khalidi for Secretary of Defense.

So now everybody who doesn't like Obama hates America. And just a few days ago you all were accusing me of that kind of reasoning.

    LOL. In our dreams.

Obama’s acceptance speech assertion that “change has come to America” is likely to signal the beginning and end of the “change” that millions of Americans naively thought they were voting for.
That’s it folks, the puppet has been rotated. Sorry to be so cynical, but the “change” you thought you were electing is already over and done with. The color of his skin matters about as much as whether he has an R or a D next to his name. The egregious spending will continue, government will balloon in size, American soldiers will be used as cannon fodder for more interventionist wars of the military-industrial complex, U.S. citizens will continue to have their phone calls tapped and their rights curtailed, and the Federal Reserve will continue to rule the financial system with an iron fist while the middle class is squeezed out of existence.

    God save us
Of course, it would be a lot worse if he were actually able to keep all his promises.

Gates has actually been pegged by a few pundits to remain in his post.

Hmm, since the far right of the Republican party has labeled everyone who has disliked the US govt ''anti-American'' I guess some could argue that comments such as this are anti-American.

As for the general topic of this thread I agree with its creator (not nescessarily with the suggested pics though), to reach across the party line would probably be a good idea.

Of course it would. But he won't.

I guess that would be okay but I'm not entirely happy with Gates. He wants to cut our Air Force, for instance.

Ayers would probably do better as Secretary of education.

I hope we don't act like the dems after 2000 of course the fringe will but at least we can still fillibuster our way out of the really crazy things in the senate.
