So, I was just discussing this process in the Presidential Election Thread, and I figured it was worth it's own thread.
Some have come to the opinion that if the Republican Party does not change it's ways it is doomed to collapse.
Do you think this is so? Why?
I do not beleive this is the case...i
I beleive that the Republican party perhaps deserved to lose, after they mismanaged their power over the last 8 years. They did a less than stellar job, and have given the Democrats an excellent boogeyman in George Bush to blame the nations problems on. Perhaps he was to blame....sometimes he was. Sometimes he wasn't. However, I beleive that the Republican Party can and will bounce back within 4-8 years.
I don't beleive Barack can sustain the "star power" that helped him win this election. He got people out there, he had the "it" factor...but the "it factor" makes not a good president. No matter what he does, he is going to alienate his supporters. Perhaps he won't live up to his promises. Perhaps he will, and it will be detrimental to the American Tax Payer. One thing is for certain...he will make mistakes.
Another telling fact is that nearly 49,000,000 American Citizens voted for John McCain. Perhaps it was a blowout as far as the Electoral College goes but that is still a close race, considering Obama got somewhere around 52,000,000 votes. (from what I just saw) 3 million Americans more. This is not what you'd expect to see if this was the destruction of the GOP.
In my opinion, Obama better get ready for another fight, one where he is not at an advantage as the "reformer"...but that's just me. 2012. We'll see.
