    Default Great mod however...

I like this mod alot, unlike RTR, RS and EB its not based on Romans

I like how when playing as Greek Cities the battles with Macedonia is more cramped. It actually feels like Im fighting for territory unlike other mods where you go in win come out then go into another city. Im finding it hard to get offensive which I like

However why is it that Spartans and many more units... but mainly Spartans are no longer Phalanx?

Well... They are still, sort of.

The phalanx formation in RTW represents the Macedonian phalanx, this was not used by widely by non-Macedonians, many Greek states had adopted it, but not all, especially Sparta. They still fought in the old style phalanx which is basically a mass of men pushing against another mass of men. This is represented by the shield wall formation from BI.

Oh... so it will still look like a sort of Phalanx if it were run on BI. I understand

I find Macedon hard enough cause Im having to flank their phalanx with two units even though Ive been outnumbered 2 to 1.

It won't look any different on BI... Just they'll have the shield wall ability (closer formation, basically impervious from the front, but won't kill any either). And the Classical Greek formation wouldn't be put out of use for quite a while, particularly in Sparta which held to traditional greek ways of fighting.

Never take vanilla at face value, they have Germans and Greek Hoplites in a Macedonian phalanx.

Well, iphicrateans as well as some german unit had what we could call an half sarissa, basically longer spears and tight formation.

CA gave them a shorter pike than sarissa, they would just need tweaking to be more realistic...

True, but it still wasn't realistic... too close to the Mak phalanx for my liking. EB does it much better, its kind of like an "in-between" regarding the Classical Greek and Macedonian phalanx's (or at least thats what I think of when I look at it).

Well, historically they had 2-3m long spears, putting them pretty much in the middle between classical phalanx and sarissa so it's all open to different views...
