Icon1 A few things to think about...

Obama, as I'm sure you all know, has won the president-elect with 333 electoral votes.

But what many people forget is that, just 42 years ago, it was illegal for a black person to drink from the same fountain as a white person.

232 years ago, with the signing of the United States Constitution, blacks were slaves that worked on plantations or as indentured servants.

Now, for the first time, a black man has won the election.

It's really something, when you think about it. I mean, so many said, "How funny! A negro being elected president? Bah! It shall never happen."

    How times have changed.

One of the biggest problems with leadership is that sometimes people mistake strength of force as good leadership, when it in reality shows the opposite.

yes and we also invented repeating rifles and nukes...times change...get over it. sorry to be so pessimistic. im an obama supporter and all. but with everyone going 'OMG HES BLACK THIS IS AMAZING' i think is dumb. i never thought of him as less of a person for being black. so it shouldnt be something great that he is elected. it should of been that way anyways
    You look great today.

Big deal, he's black, doesn't make a difference. Yeah blacks can be proud, they should be. Anyone could of been in obamas position if they said everything the American ppl wanted to hear.

As a teenager, I was taken to various houses and flats above takeaways in the north of England, to be beaten, tortured and raped over 100 times. I was called a “white slag” and “white ****” as they beat me.

I guess unlike others I don't need a leader. I have the wits and wisdom to look after my own affairs.

k, I expect to see affirmative action policies, hate crimes, negro college fund, and all black colleges to become illegal within a week.

    No you say?

    Hmm.

What are you complaining about? You're a 16-year old citizen of Canada. You shouldn't care.

    Scar is 16?

AHHHHAHAHAHAHAHA I always thought he was like 30 or something.

Anyway yeah this black significance is not so much a historical importance to me as it is a milestone within my own life and the stories of me and my friends. It's not emotional directly or just because of the history of prejudice in America... but of the current misunderstandings that remain to this day.

Of which I am now so very much more optimistic...

    Is that a complement?

@ Whoever: Why should I care? Uh, its the political mudpit? Am I barred from conversing or having political interests because I am not directly effected? Hell, I am directly effected, because Canada has a minute Black population that largely originates from America, we have many of the same social dynamics [due to similar culture, population swaps etc] as you. I am curious, now that a Black man has swept into power, do you support racist policies that benefits blacks?

Yes? No? Going to call me on my age or other irrelevant details rather than answer the question?

    In good time.

But on, it is an American thread discussing American politics in an international mudpit. And since you're only 16 and don't live in the United States, it really won't affect you in any way, shape, or form (you don't even pay taxes yet under Canadian policies).

Do you imply that blacks are in Obama's good graces in the future because of favoritism?

I say no. And that answers your question. Time will also answer it.
