This is only the second time in my lifetime that I have felt proud of something my country has done. The feeling of unity after 9/11, and the election of Barack Obama as the 44th President of the United States. This is the biggest step forward that I believe this country has ever taken in the modern era. Whether you voted for McCain, Obama or your mom, now is the time to come together and work on the problems the United States faces, which are very real.
I think that for the first time in 8 years, we have a chance to repair our image across the globe. We have a chance to show people what the real America is -- not the stereotypes, not the failures, not greed or racism. Equality, liberty, and justice for all, the virtues that our country was founded on. America has come a long, long way since we began, and I hope that the rest of the citizens of the Earth can see that as I and so many other Americans see it.
I am proud of my fellow countrymen for taking the reigns of our destiny and guiding us in what I believe to be the right direction, and if you do not feel that is where we are headed, I hope that you will join us on the journey anyway. We still face our economic crisis, the war in Iraq, social inequality, and all of these things will not be resolved in four years, or even eight. But it can be done.
I am curious to know how those who live in other countries across the globe feel about our new President, and whether this changes your perception of the United States.
