When the family tried to report the rape, the girl was accused of adultery and detained, Amnesty said.

According to Amnesty International, nurses were sent to check during the stoning whether the victim was still alive. They removed her from the ground and declared that she was, before she was replaced so the stoning could continue.

They falsified her age, stated that she asked for Sharia law despite knowing that she would be stoned if she did(??) and act all confused and clearly stated that she didn't want to die.

Just to make sure everyone knows what's going on, this was in Somalia. Not Saudi, not even the Middle East. I'm not saying those places aren't pretty bad too, but the brutality of a people who have been brutalised by decades of civil war is hard to match. If I lived in Somalia, I'm not so sure I wouldn't want to purge society of the ills that had invoked the wrath of God, even if it meant lashing out at the weak and inocent. Which is not to excuse this, but to try an understand these people's mindset.
