    Default strange phalanx formation ?

I think this only happens when you start inside a city, but when a phalanx unit start's fighting, the formation spread's all over the place.

does Roma Surrectum 2 fix the strange phalanx formation anomaly ?

    thank's

Do you mean that individual phalangites from the unit will keep moving in direction (sliding along the ground) and look like their blocking an enemy attack every second?

I've had bad phalanx experience in RS as well which is a shame, the unit won't move into position and lower the pikes or when I click attack they will all look a different direction and it becomes a mass of pikes vaguely pointing forwards

Pathfinding, particuarly for phalanxes because of their normally closeknit formations, is terrible in RTW although I've never seen behaviour as bad as you have described.

I've seen it once or twice, but not regularly.
Manually adjusting the direction of the unit usually works.

try usin hoplites instead inside of cities, also when in gaurd mode, they are very rigid. Takin them off of that, and they become more flexible

No I have that problem taking pikes through the main gate into towns. As Epirus I'm about to bail on the campaign cuz of it.
{I'm getting pummeled}.....Maybe it's just bad micromanagement on my part..

    It isn't your fault.

Phalanxes in my opinion in RS are sub-par.

But, I guess it is somewhat realistic considering how hard in RL it must have been to coordinate a phalanx.. its just annoying when your "sea of spears" turns into a bunch of men with little shields and swords, and no ability to fight.

i dont often play as anyone but rome, but i do know what you mean, and even playing as rome you do sometimes get an odd man or two drifting away for his " unit ".
and can be very annoying when you are waiting for the unit to into formation.

yeah thats what i mean, very annoying fighting the enemy and half the unit is on there side of the line.and if you re-form the unit they all put there pike's away and get killed.

Oh, and when there's this one guy who's stuck behind a building when assaulting a city. I was wondering what took my hoplites so long to get into formation. The trick is to stop current orders and manually move the one guy (order your unit to move to the place next to the guy who's stuck. When the one guy did this, stop current orders. This time the one guy will join your ranks)

But ye gads it's annoying... Same with the 'dancing phalangites', indeed.

Yes, that's the pathfinding problem in RTW. I think smaller unit size may decrease the problem.

Thats why i hate playing phalanx factions on rs, it takes longer to get 240 phalanxes through a gate than it does to win a campaign o.0 never had no problem like this on eb, so theyll most probably fix it for 2.0

killing phalanx units is so much easier when their not in formation though, maybe they should leave things the way they are. Roma Victrix
