Game won't launch

Perhaps this has been answered already, but I couldn't find it.

The launcher seems to work fine, I select an era, and the game starts to load. Then I get a message that says "Medieval2: Total War encountered an unspecified error and will now exit."

Any help?

Can you give more detail? What era, campaign, and how far does it load?

I wasn't even getting into the game before it crashed, so I uninstalled and reinstalled everything. It works fine now, so the only thing I can think of is that the Kingdoms retrofit mod was the cause.

I have a problem,after choosing faction my game crashees (SICILIAN VESPERS 3.3)

I have instaled sicilian vespers 3.3 like this:
first sicilian vespers3.0,
then sicilian vespers3.3,
then sicilian vespers3.3fix2,
then start the icon like admin,(cause I am using WINDOWS VISTA) ,
type E for EARLY ERA,(or any other letter for any wished era)
game starts, and I choose SINGLE PLAYER ,then in CUSTOM CAMPAIGN I choose EARLY CAMPAIGN and when I choose a faction and go on NEXT game just freezes!Only ctrl-alt-del can end it then ofcourseP

IF SOMEONE KNOWS HOW TO MAKE IT WORK OR WHERE AM I MISTAKING PLEASE SAY SOMETHING I WOULD APRECIATE IT VERY MUCH

Request for help.

I am a Windows Vista user who loaded Medieval2 Total War Gold Edition (M2TW & Kingdoms). I installed the mod version 3.0, then updated to version 3.3, then applied Hotfix3.3. I am successfully playing “Lands To Conquer” mod on this Vista PC. I can also successfully launch mods “1143” and “Broken Crescent”.

I am also unable to launch this game on Vista.

I get the following error trying to launch Sicilian Vespers; both by double-clicking the icon and right-clicking to Run As Administrator. I have changed the permissions on the folder for this mod; unchecked “read only”.

Once someone provides the solution, can this forum moderator post it as a sticky with the Mod download instructions? The threads and links for using this Mod in Vista have become confusing to follow and harder to understand specific to this Mod. Thank you.

The fix for this is to download & apply Launch_SicilianVespers_05162009.zip.

Even though my anit-virus & spyware software were not listed for it, I suspect that Vista needed this launch.exe anyway. I suggest that all Vista users do so.

Once I replaced the 3.3 SicilianVespers.exe with this one, the game script started successfully.

It took me a while to figure out that the game era I selected had to be launched again within the game from the Customized Campaign menu.

Everything seems fine so far now.
