Default Studs Terkel has died--will he be missed?

    From the NY Times

    excerpts:

Studs Terkel-winning author whose searching interviews with ordinary Americans helped establish oral history as a serious genre, and who for decades was the voluble host of a popular radio show in Chicago, died Friday at his home there. He was 96
Mr. Terkel succeeded as an interviewer in part because he believed most people had something to say worth hearing. “The average American has an indigenous intelligence, a native wit,” he said. “It’s only a question of piquing that intelligence.” In “American Dreams: Lost and Found” (1980), he interviewed police officers and convicts, nurses and loggers, former slaves and former Ku Klux Klansmen — a typical crowd for Mr. Terkel.
Another great man has passed on. Many criticized him as a populist, but I think he gave populism a very good face. He will be missed.

Who is around that can do the social commentary interviews as well as he did from Chicago?

I hate it when forums display your location. Now I have to be original.

All I know about Studs Terkel is that he wrote The Good War which helped inspire Max Brooks(pbuh) to pen his the great books- World War Z: An History of the Zombie War. For his aid in preapring believers for the Zombie Apocalyspe, he will be missed.

Not my first choice of literature to remembr the man by, but you are now batting much better than the rest of the forum. You know who he is and can appreciate his contribution to making the world what it is and will be.

I am a bit older on average so maybe that is it. I have listened to many of his radio broadcasts when I lived in Illinois. For these radio interviews he will be both remembered and never truly replaced.

EDIT: A magic moment -- one ring and now two for Caduet!
