    Default Not Qualified to Vote...

Okay... This is my opinion.... (and only my opinion) There is no political ideology connected to this...

There are many people in this country that I feel simply arent qualified to vote....

(I know this will never happen, both Democrats ad Republicans would never allow it...let alone all the "Special Interest groups... but its just a fantasy of mine)

What Id love to have proposed is a simple "civics" test that each voter would have to take before they are deemed qualified to vote.... and Im not talking about anything major.... just something to prove you have even minimal knowledge about the affairs of our government.

(Just for fun...I began to question people I know.. I made sure to get an equal sample of Obama/McCain supporters) admittedly it was a small sample..but the results were pathetic,...)

These were the questions I asked.... (and I think questions that would make a good pre-vote test)

Who is the current V.P (all but 1) got this one

Who is the current governor [of your state] (6 out of 10)

Who is Harry Reid[or who is the current Senate majority leader] (2 out of 10)

Who is Nancy Pelosi [or who is the Speaker of the House?] (3 out of 10)

Name 1 State Senator/State Representitive (only 4 out of 10 could do that)

and finally a few questions similar to What is Candidate Xs Stance on issue X; What is Candidate Y's stance on issue Y

I was really saddened by the lack of basic knowledge people have....

What makes it worse is that I know that one (of the Obama supporters in my group) one of those idiots vote is going to cancel out mine....

But again this isnt about party.... I'll be honest as much as I dont want Obama...I could at least stomach him if I knew he was elected by people who know the issues rather then vote on emotion (and the same goes for McCain)

This link should send you to a short video made by a local radio show I listen to ...highlighting the "qualifications" of some of the voters in my home city of Cleveland, Ohio.

I agree. Some people are too ignorant of the issues to vote. There should be a test like what you posted or similar when you go to register. It is our right though. And people will take advantage of it.

I also think people use irrelevant issues to base their decisions on. I think that's as bad or worse than being uninformed about "issues." Things like a persons religion, ethnicity, name and who they let fly on their campaign planes...

Those people are just as dangerous as uniformed voters.

I also agree. But then, I'm not a big fan of democracy in general. I think it's a form of government that only pretends to be fair and just, because when the going gets rough, a democracy is one of the most easily manipulated forms of government by anyone with a halfdecent amount of charisma.

If the people choose the leader there is nothing that can be done. Except term limits.

    **IMPORTANT NOTE**

The above reply was meant as a joke. It was not intended to be critical of the OP, nor critical of the intent behind the OP. I realise now I should have put one giant-ass laughing emoticon to convey the sarcastic and humourous tone of my post.

I personally think that servicism should be the way we deermine the way to vote (you must serve to vote) although your way works, better than having to own property to vote, which is mind you. ONe shouldn't be able to vote just because of their parents.

There is no constitutional right to vote in a federal election.

Did I say that? Don't think so -although having looked at those two links you've posted for 15 seconds I might have second thoughts.

Mordred, frankly, with all due respect, I do not care what you think.
I grew up in the Soviet Union, under a totalitarian socialist system. I have heard it all.

One of the downsides of universal suffrage is that it's universal.
Unfortunately the alternatives are either worse or impractical.
Some day I'll actually write all the reviews I keep promising...
