I've never done it before (why i'm asking for help), but can anyone advise me, or better tell me how to change the name of my Generals?

When on the descr_strat file, I can change the name and such, but the change never seems to work when I play.

    Can anyone help?
I must say the noble man (or woman) who gives me an answer shall recieve some reputation, for such a deed.

is the problem about the child and relative and with the end? ifso, then change the relative names too about down there. example :
    character Aulus Maxentius, named character, heir, age 34, , x 161, y 139
    becomes :
    character Gaius Maxentius, named character, heir, age 34, , x 161, y 139
and the children and relatives :
relative Tiberius Maxentius, Galla, Aulus Maxentius, Amulius Maxentius, Vibius Maxentius, end
relative Aulus Maxentius, Hostia, Paulina, Titus Maxentius, Oppius Maxentius, end
    becomes :
relative Tiberius Maxentius, Galla, Gaius Maxentius, Amulius Maxentius, Vibius Maxentius, end
relative Gaius Maxentius, Hostia, Paulina, Titus Maxentius, Oppius Maxentius, end

    Hope that helps.

go to "data"---> "text"---->"Names.txt" and change names of your faction as you like (you've to change names in the right column) then the ai will give that names randomly to your new and old characters!!
30BC: Ottaviano Augusto becomes the first Imperator, in his 44 years of principate he will bring to the empire peace and prosperity!
70AD: Vespasiano is the winner of first great empire's civil war, rebuilding Roman world after the Nero's dark ages.
98AD: Traiano becomes imperator after that the senateman Nerva adopted him,he will start a gold age for the empire getting it to biggest extension!! 117AD-180AD Adriano,Antonino Pio and Marco Aurelio administrate the empire during his richest and most pacific period, with their good administration Rome lives its golden age.
193AD: Settimio Severo wins the civil war started after the death of Commodo starting the Severan dinasty, his heirs will not be as good as him. 252-285AD Rome lives the peak of III century's crisis, onli the emperor Aureliano will be able to reunite the empire breacked in 3 parts and the great reformer Diocleziano will give to Rome militar, politic and social cohesion after decades of caos. 325AD:Costantino rules alone over the empire and christianity is for the first time accepted by the imperial government.

Editing desc_strat only works when you load up a new campaign. Loading a save will not achieve anything. Make sure that the names in desc_strat match the names in names.txt, or expect CTD's. Make sure you follow wr1ght's instructions when changing desc_strat.
Although this may disappoint some people, I am indeed alive, I just went inactive for three years.

Is it necessary to keep all names in names.txt and descr_names.txt in alphabetical order after renaming?
Is it necessary to delete file map.rwm before playing a new/saved game after renaming?
Is it possible to have two same names in one faction's list?

I tried to change ridiculous Parthian vanilla names when playng RTRPE into historically accurate. Now I have a problem - CTD when trying to save (in both new and loaded campaings). I checked all the names in descr_strat, descr_names and names.txt but didn't find any mistake.

    What could I do wrongly?

    No.

I wouldn`t change them mid campaign. Adding some names might be fine, but removing from the existing ones might not. But, yes, if you change anything in descr_strat you need to delete the map.rwm and start a new campaign for the changes to take proper effect.

Yes. Just name them differently internally and the same outside the brackets in names.txt. For example:
    Code:
    {Kassandros} Kassandros
    {Kassandrosii} Kassandros
You can have as many of these as you want. Just make sure that in the text files you use the internal name(in the example above: Kassandrosii).

    Try the name verifier:

It`s for m2tw, but generally it works for rtw too.
