    Default Problem with installation

Ok, so I first borrowed Medieval 2 from the library, and it installed fine. And then I found M2 kingdoms at the Library, and checked it out.
I tried to install Kingdoms, but at about the third bar it said 'can not install to 1.000 version' I don't quite remember what the number was but whatever.

I assumed that there were two versions of Medieval 2, and I needed a different one to match Kingdoms. So I just went and bought The Gold Edition, and uninstalled the M2 from the Library, and atempted to install the one I bought that came with Kingodms.
The computer is unresponsive to the disk. I out it in the drive, and a green light flashes, ejects the disk on its own and repeats. Eventually it takes the disk and keeps it, and nothing pops up. It's either the computer, or the disk. I't did fine with the one from the Lidrary, but it doesn't like this one.

I tried re-installing the Library one, and it still didn't do anything but flashed excesivly.

I don't know what the deal is, but I hope some of you do.
I have had one to many problems with games and PC.

    Thank you.

Its been spitting out disks for a long time. But just now its being unresponsive when I but somthing in. Even if I go to my computer there is nothing that appears in the DVD-RW drive.

If it is broken, is there a way I can get it fixed?

The bad news is the the only way to fix is to buy another one and replace it.

Will a Sony compact disc rewritable DVD multi-recorder work? My mom has one that she uses for her iMac, could it be an alternative to the one attatched to the computer? Or is there a seperate one I could buy?

Is your mom's drive an external one? If so, probably not as the transfer rate isn't fast enough even with usb cable. You need a new internal one even if you have to work it off for your mom.

I've had this problem with Medieval 2 as well. Installed fine and worked for a week and then stopped working just like you describe - dvd drive just whirred, flashing green light but wouldnt load. So I uninstalled it as heard that this sometimes helps and it then refused to re-install! I even got a new copy of the game, restored PC to factory settings, reinstalled vista - all to no avail. Some DVDs work ok but some don't even register as being in the drive like yours. For some reason Medieval 1 loads fine!

Spent hours and hours trying to sort this out so I've decided to send my pc back (only had it about 3 weeks) as I want something that i can play games and watch DVDs on and this piece of junk isnt it! grrrrrr

You could copy the disk first onto your hard drive and then run the install from there. Will take ages to copy and gobbles up a lot of space, but it might work.

External drives are no problem per se, as the transfer rate is irrelevant for a successful installation and playing of the game. I used an external usb drive for (re-)installation, took a bit longer but worked well.

As for playing the installed game without a disc: I would not try to make an iso-file of the disc and run it from the harddrive unless you know what you're doing, as the securom protection is quite good, and therefore requires special software to copy the game to and run it from the harddrive. As with all games, there are no-cd cracks available from the net. However, both methods are illegal in most countries, even if you own an original, legal copy of the game.

So, in summary, if you don't know how to change the internal drive, buy an external. They don't cost much more than the game itself, and you'll be needing a new dvd-drive anyway, won't you?
"The cheapest form of pride however is national pride. For it reveals in the one thus afflicted the lack of individual qualities of which he could be proud, while he would not otherwise reach for what he shares with so many millions. He who possesses significant personal merits will rather recognise the defects of his own nation, as he has them constantly before his eyes, most clearly. But that poor blighter who has nothing in the world of which he can be proud, latches onto the last means of being proud, the nation to which he belongs to. Thus he recovers and is now in gratitude ready to defend with hands and feet all errors and follies which are its own."-- Arthur Schopenhauer

Yes we plan to take in the computer and get the internal one replaced because it is unrepsonive. I am going to try every now and then.

ok I finally got the dvd drive replaced and it works fine.

Now, whenever I put the MT2 GOLD disc one in, it says 'cannot determine the indstalled game language for Medieval 2 Total War: Gold'

What can I do to fix this issue!

    thanks

There seem to be some 'left overs' from the previous installation in the registry. Have a look if you some files or directories left in the Sega\M2TW directory.

To be honest I really don't know what the installation directory is: I always install my games into c:\Games. Do a search for 'medieval' on your hard drive, that give you the directory if it still exists.
